10 day old distressed before bowl movement help!

Posted this in feeding but didn’t get much response so hoping someone here can help!

My 10 day old dd is formula fed, we are using cow & gate first infant formula. She feeds really well, no issues taking the bottle at all. She does however become very upset and agitated for quite a while leading up to bowl movements. Her stools are yellow in colour and very soft so I don’t think it’s constipation. We are just struggling as nothing at all will calm her down, we have just had nearly 3 hours of her screaming inconsolably and just changed her 3rd dirty nappy in that time.

I have the midwife coming on Monday so will be speaking to her but just wondered if anyone has any advice/or has experienced the same?

My youngest was like this, although breastfed, and turned out to be cow's milk allergy. She would have 6 dirty nappies every morning by about 8am then nothing all day. She was also quite congested and would occasionally have rashes on her face.

Does she have any other symptoms? If not, try infacol or colactase, or change milk as a last resort. We changed to Hipp with my first and she was much better.

They can put a lot of work into a bowel movement at this age but it doesn't mean anything is wrong. As the poo is soft when it arrives then it's not constpation.
