If you needed to buy a “fashion set” for an 11 year old girl...

...what would you buy?

It’s for a Christmas gift-giving scheme for children in need. I have been given these details (i.e. a fashion set for an 11 year old girl) but I’m not quite sure what a fashion set is and would hate to give a disappointing present (especially as it may be her only one this year).

Budget is meant to be around £10 but I’m happy to go higher if needed.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

I don’t think that’s a thing. Best ask whoever gave you the criteria what they mean.

pippistrelle · 30/11/2018 11:35

I think I'd buy something else from the list because I'd have no idea what a 'fashion set' is.

ZigAZigAhh · 30/11/2018 11:39

Thanks Racecar - unfortunately the gift requests come directly from the children themselves and I don’t think there is a straightforward way of clarifying.

There’s nothing else on the list - one suggestion per child...

At a guess I would assume jewellery or nail and make up set

halcyondays · 30/11/2018 11:44

Something like this maybe

3 in 1 colour your own fashion set from the Works or the Range.

(Can't get links to work)

steppemum · 30/11/2018 11:44

dd is 11, and I am guessing she wants something a bit teenage and grown up. So like the difference between real make up and kids make up sets.

But whether she want clothes, jewellery, make up etc, is anyone's guess.
None of those are cheap, and she won't get much for £10

Primark would be my bet, you can get several bits and bobs together to make a set up, and not too pricey

BluthsFrozenBananas · 30/11/2018 11:48

That’s hard, it could mean clothes, make up or accessories. Perhaps play safe and get a few different bits. Maybe make up a box with a T-shirt (those reversible sequin ones are popular with that age), some hair accessories, little bottle of glitter nail polish, a body spray and a necklace or bracelet. Clare’s usually have offers on and primark or H and M have funky tween clothes that won’t break the bank.

ZigAZigAhh · 30/11/2018 12:33

Brilliant - thank you so much for all your ideas!! I think a range of things like nail polish, hair accessories, a top or two etc will be the safest bet (and I’m sure my 11 year old self would have loved something like that). Phew - I have a plan now!

I wouldn't buy tops as you don't know what size she is, some 11 year olds are tiny and some really tall. I don't think you could wrong with things like lip balm and nail varnish.

ZigAZigAhh · 30/11/2018 13:40

Good call - will stick with make up/accessories!

My DD who is 10 loves the TopModel books where you can draw your own fashion designs, could it be that? I’ll try and find a link, there’s a million different versions - some are make up etc and they have special colouring pencils that go with them (they have skin colour ones in).

MakeLemonade · 30/11/2018 13:46

This one has stickers and stencils but some are just colouring/design

Top model are really expensive though (by comparison to the budget)

LucyFox · 30/11/2018 16:59

I would think a fashion design set - very popular in that age group. Maybe add some nail varnish or lip balm and chocolate too just in case you are off the mark!

RockinHippy · 30/11/2018 18:01

I'm with the fashion design set too, my DD was obsessed with that sort of thing about this age. She also loved funky looking lip balms at this age too, she spent all her pocket money on them

ZigAZigAhh · 30/11/2018 19:59

Brilliant, thanks everyone, this has all been amazingly helpful. I think I’m going to play it safe and get a fashion design set (there seem to be loads out there! I never knew they existed before today) and I’ve also found some cool lip gloss/nail polish/headband - and will throw in some chocolate too (great suggestion!)

It will be a bit over budget but I would rather do that than risk disappointing a girl who must be having a pretty tough time.

Thanks again to all who have commented.
