First time godparent, and no idea what an appropriate gift would be. Any ideas?

The people who make the lost my name books now do one where you can choose characteristics like brave and curious etc.

Otherwise I would go for bible stories.

Bible or book of children's bible stories. You are being their godparent and part of that is bringing them up in the church. Christmas and birthday are the chance for secular gifts.

For christenings i normally get a now oah's ark toy or books (e.g. set of Beatrix potter books).

One of DS1’s godparents laid down a case of port that’ll be just right when he’s 18...I was impressed!

Otherwise we received children’s bibles, a very lovely picture for the wall with the date and time etc, children’s prayer books.

To be honest, for us I’ve been far far more impressed with the godparents who have taken the time with the boys...even if it’s a day trip once a year. We tried to pick people who would and have managed full engagement with 4/6 on that measure. And hyper engagement from a couple, which is just lovely as we like the idea that they’re family now.
