I've just looked and life imprisonment or anything short of that according to Wikipedia

But what do men generally get for rape?

Depends on many variables ie guilty plea etc

Sentencing guidelines as follows:
www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Final_Sexual_Offences_Definitive_Guideline_content_web1.pdf

In my experience a "not guilty" but Hmm

TooTrueToBeGood · 29/11/2018 20:19

Statistically, the most likely outcome is that they don't even face trial.

Putting aside the scandalously low conviction rate, there is a risk with having life sentences for rape. If the difference in sentencing between rape and murder is insignificant then more rapists will chose to murder their victim(s). Doing so, and eliminating the key witness, reduces the likelihood of conviction without a meaningful increase in consequence.

Yes sorry

I should have said - in the event of a conviction

Which I appreciate is ridiculously unlikely

I was told mine would likely get 2 years and be out in 1. He didn’t, not enough evidence and I didn’t react typically

I'm so Sorry @Howmanysleepstilchristmas

I started this thread due to personal reasons but I'm worried it may be triggering - will ask Mumsnet to remove it

I think I remember reading the average is 8 years, but it really does vary a lot more than with other crimes. In the recent past some have even got a sentence of less than a year.

Nothing at all or less than 4 years.
Unless the woman or rapist is prolific or the rape was particularly violent it's next to nothing.

Oh, no need @whenlifegetshard If I wasn’t ready to talk about it I wouldn’t have clicked on the thread. He did get 1 year for sexual assault on someone else (reduced to 6 months). The parole service notified me when he was due for release even though he got not guilty for me, if that’s relevant at all.
