Can I add potatoes to chilli con carne?

I've got some potatoes that need using up and in my mind chilli with potatoes sounds like it should work.

Am I mad? Will it taste awful?

I'm hoping to add them to also bulk out the dish so I can stretch it for a few days instead of just one dinner.

Dont see why not... People have chilli and jacket spuds or wedges.

Enjoy

MrWolfknowsthetime · 29/11/2018 14:09

I would make potato wedges to have with the chilli. I don’t think putting them in would work very well, but I’m not much of a cook!

WhoTookTheCookie · 29/11/2018 14:16

Wedges!!

Much better idea!

Thank you Grin

Or my 'cowboy pie' which is basically shepherds pie but the base is chilli con carne and then mash on top

Do jacket potatoes or wedges instead

MrWolfknowsthetime · 29/11/2018 14:18

We often have chilli and wedges instead of rice. Feels a bit more decadent somehow Grin

Feels a bit more decadent somehow Yeah! Fuck you, you boring white shards!

WhoTookTheCookie · 29/11/2018 14:22

@spanishwife that's genius!

@cjt110 I agree, rice is just pointless. Tasteless, boring, impossible to cook the right amount.
Like eating grainy air.

I like adding potatoes! They soak up the spice really well and don't detract from an already good meal! Chuck 'em I'm I say!

spanishwife · 29/11/2018 14:24

@WhoTookTheCookie Bit of cheese on the top, sometimes I stir a bit of fajita packed mix into the potato, sometimes use sweet potato mash! Definitely keeps things interesting and new! The kids think I'm Nigella Grin

WhoTookTheCookie · 29/11/2018 14:24

I'm trying to become a bit more adventurous with cooking.
By adventurous, I mean chucking random things together and hoping it tastes ok.

So far (as you can probably tell) it's been an enormous failure Grin
I'm sure Heston Whatshisface doesn't have these problems.

@spanishwife see, when I try things like that my DD looks at me like I've lost the plot.
Then toddles off to her mud kitchen to mix up an earthy delight - just to rub salt in the wounds and prove that my cooking is atrocious.

I'm starting to get a bit of a complex!

do it if they are waxy potstoes
floury will just disintegrate.

or bake the pots.

we never have rice with chilli - it's baked potatos here.
