Manchester folk....

Advice sought!

I am unexpectedly going to be alone in Manchester on a Friday night in a couple of weeks time. Was supposed to be a pre Christmas weekend away with long term partner, however our relationship is now over.

My friend is coming to join me on Saturday, but that means I'm at a loose end on the Friday night. I'm determined not to sit feeling sorry for myself and to actually have a nice evening, one way or another

Hotel in spinningfields area. So do I have a quiet night in the hotel, or is there anywhere that would be reasonable to go for a bite to eat/glass of wine on my own? Not remotely bothered about being alive, just don't want to look a sad sack around couples and people on work xmas parties!

Spinningfields has loads of bars and restaurants. The Christmas markets are also on so you could wander round those.

The Christmas Markets are definitely a good shout, proper festive! Really just here to support the comment above, you're in a good area op I'd definitely make the most of it!

Have a lovely time!

Thanks both! I'm saving the markets to do with my friend on Saturday.

Good to know I'm in a busy area. Absolutely determined to have a great time, despite my change in circumstances

Go cinema or theatre. No one will look twice. Do a shout out for some Manchester mumsnetters to come and join you!

What about seeing if there is a MeetUp event on that night? They do loads around the Manchester area.

Or you're very close to the Opera House, you could get a cheap last minute seat at whatever's on there at the moment!

This place is great and lots of people go there on their own:

A meetup even sounds great! Where would I find them advertised?

@Restlessinthenorth you'll need to register on the website (just google Meet Up) but then it's free to browse/attend. I did one a couple of months ago, went to a comedy club and although I didn't come out with lifelong friends it did get me out of the house and it was a funny evening.

Once you've had a glass of wine or 2 you might feel more confident heading to a bar alone afterwards!

@Restlessinthenorth did you get sorted?
