Hi all,
Posting here for traffic my DD1 (3, 4 next week ] has just being diagnosed with epilepsy ( focal seizures ).
MRI normal
EEG normal
SLEEP EEG normal
So as of yet no cause she has prescribed lamotrigine but seems to be allergic to it as the doses increase. I have a appointment tomorrow to discuss moving to Keppra. My question is has anyone had experience with this with their child and how did it affect them ? I have been told it can affect mood ?

Hi, no experience of children with epilepsy but my husband has it and takes Lamotrogine and Keppra. He’s had no real side effects, he does suffer from depression but this is unrelated to the medication as started before he stated having seizures (adult onset).

My daughter was on keppra for 8 years it's amazing at preventing seizures an she had no signs of any side effects

Hello. My son was on keppra from age 5- age 12. Once we got him on the right dose, he was seizure free and stayed that way. He has now been off it since January and so far has been seizure free. The keppra started off with no side effects ( though crossing over on drugs made him very very tired ) but after a while his behaviour deteriorated and we had a lot of depression and anger ( known as keppra rage). I discovered that there is a lot of evidence for giving a full spectrum vitamin B every night to combat keppra rage and that got rid of the worst of it. Having said that, my son is sunnier and happier since coming off meds but overall I still feel we did the right thing as previously my son was having a seizure every other night since birth.
Good luck with it all. Having a child with epilepsy is immensely stressful. Epilepsy Action are a good charity for support. Also get your child a seizure pillow - their pattern of seizures can change. And don’t leave them unattended near water xx

Btw, all my son’s tests were normal. It is common. It just means they have idiopathic epilepsy which is very common.

And an allergy to lamotrigine can be serious so I’d get her off that ASAP. Our paediatrician told us that keppra is a good drug as it is very “clean “ and doesn’t harm the body.

Thank you all for your help ! My DD started keppra and so far the only symptoms have been insomnia. I've got her a epilepsy pillow as she has only had seizures when waking up.
