What are the best supermarket stollen and mince pies?

Enjoyed the Aldi mini stollen I've tried, is it the best or should I try Lidl too?

Do we have a verdict yet on the mince pie crop this year - where are the nicest to be found?

I'd heard that Aldi mince pies with salted caramel were lovely so couldn't wait to try them.

I've never been disappointed with Aldi stuff.

What a let down! The pies had barely a teaspoon of mincemeat in them and as for the salted caramel, I couldn't see any, let alone taste it. There was plenty of pastry though.

Couldn't understand why people were raving about them.

Maybe I had a bad batch.

Tesco Finest with Brandy - lovely! Though after having them I don't like the bog standard ones now!

Is anybody doing the one with Viennese whirl tops this year? I refuse to make my own until about the week before, because they just disappear so fast!

Im not even trying the salted caramel.

For gluten and dairy free mince pies I've found Lidls are the best followed by sainsburys and Aldis. Worst are Tesco's and Asda both nearly inedible

Asda's fancy all butter mince pies are my favourite so far this year.

Just finished munching an Asda extra special all butter mince pie - very nice. However I rate the M&S all butter ones (star on top) the best.

Anyone got a recommendation for a chocolate chip panettone?

I echo Morrisons own brand mince pies sold in 4's in the clear packaging. Lovely buttery sweet pastry that's not too dry, and a lush deep yummy filling.

I've never really been a mince pie fan, but I've bought three packs of these in one week!

I'm waiting to hear if Heston's choc and cherry ones are any good too.

Morrison's shortcrust mince pies from the bakery are the best!! I get my dad to pick them up specially as I never go to Morrison's myself

waitrose essential mince pies are dairy free and despite the fact i'm not supposed to be eating cake i've eaten 2 boxes in the last 2 weeks...

Sainsbury's Ecclefechan are a bit different and absolutely lush.

Plus you can say "I am going to have a 'fechan tart now" in an immature way.

Last year the best ones were the Sainsbury bakery ones - £1 for four. Best thing about them was the pastry/mincemeat ratio, as I much prefer shallow mince pies. Deep-filled ones are too much mincemeat for my taste.

Home made or none

I like the Iceland ones. They are the only ones I would buy anyway because they don't contain palm oil. I believe all the others do. I know that M&S ones do and Sainsburys.

All the Christmas cakes and puddings seem to as well. I went to Lidl in the week, picked up loads of things, read the label and then put them all back as they ALL contained palm oil.

billiby. Heston's are definitely not a mince pie of any sort IMHO. I did think they made an excellent quick and yummy desert though, DH agreed so I have bought a couple of packs as they were on offer, had a great shelf life and freezable. However, my friend thought they were vile!

It’s not just you. DH gave me one of the salted caramel mince pies last night and I spat it out. I told him it was like eating a tiny sandcastle - dry as a nun’s chuff and almost no mincemeat to be found!

Another vote here for Co-op, partic ularly the minis. My brother ate the others I bought to try, so assume they were good, but we don't have any alcoholic ones.
Wishing I could access Sainsburys, as I used to make my own little Ecclefechan-type before energy ran out.

I went to Aldi's especially on the other day and stocked up on 6 (!) packets of stollen bites. They had almost sold out. They are our favourites. The plain, basic ones, though. Traditional. Absolutely yummy.

Mince pies, again, we don't like the really fancy ones. Too much, of too much. I love the Waitrose puff pastry ones, yes, I know, not traditional, but I am not a pastry fan. DD's like Waitrose essential, at £1 a pack, I am not complaining.
