What are the best supermarket stollen and mince pies?

Enjoyed the Aldi mini stollen I've tried, is it the best or should I try Lidl too?

Do we have a verdict yet on the mince pie crop this year - where are the nicest to be found?

Aldi sloe gin mince pies are the best I've ever eaten.

MrSoft · 28/11/2018 22:31

Aldi dark chocolate coated stollen is to die for. Also their frangipane mince pies. And lebkuchen. And, well you get the idea Grin

Morrison's stollen slices are so so good.

Another shout for Aldi Black Forest mince pies.

VerbeenaBeeks · 28/11/2018 23:04

Aldi's stollen is YUM.

VerbeenaBeeks · 28/11/2018 23:05

Black forest mince pies sound amazing, I'm going to have to keep an eye out for those!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/11/2018 15:35

Iceland luxury ones are GH winners again.

Cakemonger · 29/11/2018 15:37

Aldi frangipane mince pies

M&S premium mince pies, though they are very rich

HeyMacWey · 29/11/2018 16:06

I bought the Aldi apple stollen today and I'm disappointed with it - quite dry. Much prefer the stollen bites.

NymphInYellow · 29/11/2018 16:34

I'm on my 3rd box of Aldi black forest mince pies. Going to have serious withdrawals in Jan. Lidl usually does the best (and biggest) stollen, though I haven't had one yet this year.

Orangecake123 · 29/11/2018 17:07

I like the ones from sainsburys.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 29/11/2018 17:09

For those that DO want to make their own (I can't be arsed), my sister makes a cheat version with prebought pastry.
Shortcrust on the bottom, blob on mincemeat, egg round the mincemeat, flaky on top and here's the clever bit, squish to make edges with a ravioli maker. You then cut and egg them and can bake them on the pastry paper.
Even this is too much effort for me though. But they are deeeelish.

Hope you are all checking the labels for palm oil?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/11/2018 17:21

Iceland all the way then.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/11/2018 17:46

Sainsbury in store bakery followed by Sainsbury TTD mini pies

I sent DS round to Greggs last week, he got 2 boxes , they were really dark .

Planning to try some Lidl bakery
Not keen on M&S , or Tesco.

Stollen.... that'll be made by me. No butter on the top, no rum, tonnes of marzipan. Xmas Grin

OrigamiZoo · 29/11/2018 18:37

Haven't had any yet, are there any puff pastry ones around?

I like the idea of the iced ones from Asda....!

Knittink · 29/11/2018 18:40

Booths stollen is amazing!

FrigideBarjot · 29/11/2018 18:40

I like Tesco's Finest mince pies with Courvoisier brandy.

ElectricBlueEyes · 29/11/2018 18:40

Greggs mince pies are delish and love the stollen from Morrison's in-store bakery

WoollyMollyMonkey · 29/11/2018 18:57

I’ve always preferred Iceland mince pies and they do a big box at a very reasonable price. I haven’t had any from anywhere yet this year though, so watching replies with interest! I love a mince pie, warmed up and a dollop of extra thick double cream uuuuuuummmmmmm! [drooling]

WoollyMollyMonkey · 29/11/2018 18:59

Oo oo ooo forgot to say! I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED that McDonalds are AGAIN not doing their festive mince pies! Absolute travesty, I can’t understand their thinking, the bosses must be deep fried numb nuts. Bah humbug!

thenightsky · 29/11/2018 19:02

Lidl Stollen bites. I ate far too many last year, so I've not even been in the shop this year.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 29/11/2018 19:04

Aldi sloe gin mince pies are the best I've ever eaten

Makes mental note to visit Aldi ASAP.

My favourite stollen is the M&S one everything else is too dry. Can anyone recommend a moist stollen that isn’t M&S.
