The Kindness of Strangers...

Twas two months before Christmas a gift left to find
A tree decoration, but a particular kind
A small elephant made from bristle buri brush
Was the source of this years panic and fuss

Searching shops for the particular design
It soon became clear I would need to venture online
But whilst online stores had other animals galore
They just didn't have the elephant I was searching for

So I turned to wise Mumsnet, people spread far and wide
They were full of suggestions, yes the nest of vipers they tried
Yet the trouble with Nelly was the sea in between
USA only, with postage costs to make you scream

The along came a poster by the name of bubbles
Who took drastic steps to solve all my elephant troubles
Bartering with friends she didn't give in
Send Nelly or the custard powder goes in the bin

So Nelly was purchased a deal was struck
Bubbles an international negotiator, I couldn't believe my luck
Then came few weeks of waiting, watching for mail
But Bubbles was determined the mission wouldn't fail

Through Heathrow Nelly cleared customs, creating quite a stir
An elephant as a gift so much better than myrrh
Now onto the courier a dodgy white Yodel van
A very modern twist on the ancient wise man

Nestled beside laptops, soft toys and a bin
The jolly yodel man delivered Nelly with a grin
A quick rest with Bubbles her daughter and dog
Then onto the post office through wintery fog

A knock on my door, a package for me.
An elephant decoration, just 3 weeks after my plea
But reader beware, remember lurking Internet dangers
Like the chances of crying due to the kindness of strangers.

TLDR:// I posted a plea to help find this elephant and a lovely poster by the name of @lookingforbubbles has gone above and beyond to find it for me. She refused to accept any form of payment for it, despite my begging. Halo I have never known a complete stranger to be so kind and giving, she really does deserve lots of @s to say what a superstar she is. A real credit to Mumsnet

Also I am sorry for my poetic butchering of the night before Christmas

I agree Gilead It was indeed a lovely thing to do, and it makes a change from all the negative stories in the world at the minute. Smile

This is such an amazing thread. Not just for the kindness of bubbles but your wonderful poem too Grin

Oh I read your original post looking for the elephant, I'm so glad you got it, hurrah for Bubbles and the wonder of Mumsnet!

Windgate · 28/11/2018 08:59

What a wonderful thing Bubbles did. Nellie is so cute.

IceRebel · 28/11/2018 09:41

Bloodybridget I'm glad you remember the original thread. I really didn't think i'd be able to get the decoration without paying crazy postage prices from America. Bubbles is indeed Hurrah worthy, and Mumsnet isn't quite the nest of vipers they are portrayed to be. Grin

Windgate Nelly is indeed cute, and i'm sure she will be a very welcome addition to my relative's Christmas tree.

This is probably one of the loveliest threads I've read this year. I'm beginning to think Bubbles is secretly Mrs Claus. To not only track down Elly but to post her across the sea with no charge is simply the epitome of random acts of kindness. Grin

IceRebel · 29/11/2018 06:55

Oww HeadsDown perhaps you're right. Bubbles we're on to you, how are the reindeer. [Grin]
