Blood transfusions and giving blood

Sorry to ask what seems like a silly question, but I can't seem to find a proper answer on Google.

I used to donate blood regularly before I had my son in 2005, when I had to have a blood transfusion. I was always told that I cannot give blood again, but is this actually right? It was 13 years ago. Can I really never donate again?

Thanks Smile

No. I had DD in 1999 and can't donate anymore. It's so annoying as I was a regular donor before.

You can't donate if you've had a blood transfusion after 1980.

I've been a donor since 2012 and hope I can do it for many years to come. I'm sorry to hear you are unable to. Congratulations and well done on your past donations though! Flowers

It's because there's no way of testing blood for vCJD (human form of mad cow disease) and someone caught it from a transfusion.
