The News full stop. I rarely look at it and feel much better for it. It's the same crap from time immemorial.

Royal weddings

GallicosCats · 28/11/2018 00:11

Brexit. Trump. Climate change (well not bored, more head-bang-wall weary because nobody's listening), famine in Yemen, conflict in the Middle East, any 'news' about how gender stereotypes are biological and unalterable (so women shouldn't even dream of STEM careers lest their ovaries and mothering abilities dry up but men can wear dresses and call themselves women ), Brexit, Brexit and oh yeah, did I mention Brexit?

I think it's time to stop watching the news. Grin

Mrsjohnmurphy · 28/11/2018 00:17

I feel bad for saying this but Grenfell, I was with my ex at the time who liked to watch the news on a loop for hours. I actually said to him that if I heard the word cladding one more time I would go insane.

Gawd I don't miss having to watch BBC news all the time and listen to LBC, FML an hour of talking about bike lanes (shoves fist in mouth)

Not like he was erudite and super informed either, he loved Jeremy Corbyn because he believed he would introduce a citizens wage. He could therefore give up his half arsed taxi driving and sit at home playing world of warcraft all day.

Buddy that went to the island, got himself killed

I get annoyed that sport is tacked on to news.
It’s not news at all, it’s just games. When I’m interested, and I love watching some sports, I can go to a dedicated sports channel.

The only defence people have is that it’s ‘such a big industry’.
If that were the criteria for airtime, fashion would dominate the schedules.
Everyone wears clothes, most of the time. Only some people care about some sports, some of the time.

It’s just a remnant from the days when everything men liked was important, even if it was totally pointless.
Angry (in case you hadn’t guessed)

Trump.
All my American podcasts are literally just about him which I find dull as I don’t understand a lot of it. Graham Norton’s writers are obsessed with him which I find very annoying for some reason!

AdamNichol · 28/11/2018 08:56

Trump
Brexit
Neither of these actually matter

Any 'celeb' news. I don't care who they are, what they have done, or what their opinions on anything are

The current trend for making everything about gender, now no-one it seems can do anything without it being scrutinised through a gender viewpoint. And worse still, it is being used by some to further a misogynist agenda - denying women the right (?) to be held culpable for their actions > there must be a man behind the scenes who has created this victim; as if anyone of any gender commits any sort of crime out of the blue without a whole chain of events and influencers leading to it.

Don't get me wrong, exposure of gaslighting, harassment, assaults, etc, is a valuable thing. But it can't be made the only thing. Many things that happen are unrelated.
