Kids being rude about a parent - WWYD?

DS is in Y1 and 5 years old. A tiny class so a small friendship pool.

Today DS came home from school and cried - proper heartbroken sobs. Apparently one of the boys was teasing him and saying “mean things” about me. DS wouldn’t tell me what the boy said - I suspect because he doesn’t want to hurt my feelings. I’m guessing it was appearance related as I’m nowhere near as well groomed, skinny and stylish as the majority of mums.

How would you handle this? We had a cuddle and I reassured DS that I wasnt bothered. Told him I was proud that he hadn’t said anything unkind back and that he should just ignore people who are being unkind.

However I am quite surprised that a 5 year old would be bold enough to be rude about a parent. Is this common?

I have no idea but just wanted to say how fab you are for dealing with it the way you did.

Agree, you're dealing with it really well.
