Drain / sewer manhole on patio - can it be moved?

I'm on a row of six terraces and we all have raised patios out of our back doors and further steps down to our back gardens. There is a manhole cover on each patio that I believe is part of the drainage system for the houses - I've seen the interior once and there's a Victorian looking brick sewer aboit 1.5 metres down.

DH would really like to extend over the patio but I'm not sure it would be possible given the position of the manhole. Does anyone know if it is possible to move such things when they are connected to a communal supply?

Contact your water/sewerage provider. They will have guidelines and rules surrounding what you can/can’t do regarding the public sewer. They will also be able to clarify if the pipe you refer to is your responsibility, shared with other owners/landlords/factors or public (I.e their responsibility). This will have a bearing on what you can do with it.

Thanks - hadn't thought of that!
