What do you with your dcs to encourage the development of their self esteem? My eldest dc attempted suicide last Christmas and I have noticed my youngest ds is developing anxiety around school. This isn’t really a MH question exactly I just think am I doing something wrong. How do other people encourage the development of self esteem?

I’m sorry to hear about your eldest op. How sad and frightening for you.
How old are your dcs and why is there anxiety around school?

I’ve done the following things which I think has helped their confidence which I think helps their self esteem;

Helped them with hw and if they are struggling with anything at school.
Encouraged them to do things for themselves out in public like order their own food, ask shop assistants for help, pay for things.
Enrolled them in a couple of clubs outside school. Scouts/guides are good for building confidence and self esteem.
Get them to do chores and things for themselves
Spend time with them and take them to interesting places
I always praise them for the good jobs they’ve done and try to change their negative thoughts.
For example, if my dcs think they’re rubbish at something, I tell them that they would get better if they practice more and it’s fine to not be the best at it.
