Best Before dates you ignore?

Curious to hear what people think about Best Before dates... Does anyone actually pay attention to them?

I just cracked open and M&S fruitcake of questionable vintage went off two weeks ago and it's bloody fantastic...even nicer than when I opened it!

I ignore useby dates too — prefer to go by sight/smell / touch.

I'll hold my hands up and admit to being a bit overzealous at chucking out things at best before however it's only really fresh meat mainly chicken I can't even bring myself to touch raw chicken so it gets binned it's we don't use it within 3 days of buying or cold meats.
Milk gets sniffed before each use and if I think it's on the turn I won't use it, DH is much less bothered and will only Chuck if it's visibly separating EnvyConfused.

Everything else gets the sniff test.

I completely ignore Best Before dates. I take Use By dates with a pinch of salt. If it looks ok and smells ok, it probably is ok. The main exceptions to this are fish, shellfish and poultry, about which I will be more cautious for obvious reasons.

I hope the general population is horrified by our sound advice, otherwise I’m going to face a lot more competition at the M & S reduced counter!

meat and fish are the only things that you really need to be careful of BB dates
