In the middle of doing my first budget shop list. I've been overspending on grocery shopping. This month I plan to get a handle on it.

Starting with the staple shopping bits and pieces....my mind is blank though haha

In no particular order....the shopping staples I have so far are:

Cooking oil
Wash powder
Clothing softener
Toothpaste
Pack of Toothbrushes
Body spray
Toilet Roll
Shampoo
Hair conditioner
Showergel
Tea
Coffee
Dog food
Butter / Margarine

What staple things are missing?

When I was on maternity leave I did an internet order that I kept the same and repeated every couple of weeks. I did a small fresh shop every week for bread. Fruit. Salad. But only spent about £20 a time. I also picked up washing powder/cleaning/toiletries/coffee in this little shop as they ran out.
The online fortnightly internet order was similar to this:www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/trolley
There were 2 adults. 2 kids. (I havnt included nappies and wipes which I would have ordered too)

Mumshotel · 26/11/2018 21:43

The internet order was about 80 quid without nappies

Can I suggest trying things the other way round and working out what you want to eat for about four days. Then what you’ll do with the leftovers (so you buy a bag of carrots...well you’ll be having carrots more than once this week then).

I’m surprised you need shampoo etc each month...but each to their own and you might all share one bottle.

I’d add:
Breakfast - OJ, milk (12 pints a week for four of us), bread for toast, porridge, brioche for fuss pot DS2

Meal food - fresh pasta, rice, risotto rice, potatoes, onions, garlic, cream, passata, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, frozen peas, mince, roast something, stock cubes/pots, cheese, ham, bagels, cream cheese, eggs, tea, coffee, squash

Snacks and treats - yoghurts, fruit, crisps, biscuits

My staples include fresh chillies, olive oil and wineGrin

For the sake of my liver, tho, the cooking wine is Morries low alcohol cooking wineGrin My cooking is mostly Italian, hence the above.
