Dog friendly but luxury in Scotland?

Posting here for traffic.

I recently went to Scotland for work. I have been before (Edinburgh for The Fringe and Loch Lomond for work) but this time I just loved it and I said to DH we should go up for a short break. But I get anxious about being away and so want to find the right place!

For reference pre DD, DH and I would go self catering overlooking the coast in Cornwall each year. Just lots of walks, castle type days out, the odd restaurant and the beach. I would love to find the right place in Scotland!

Rural/beach/waterside - views are a must
5 star accommodation (clean, modern interior)
Ideally dog friendly as our retriever hates to be away from me but I'm also conscious we're so far south the drive up would be pretty awful for him. If we didn't have him we could fly.

Thinking about booking something next year... thanks in advance for any ideas!

Stayed at Hilton near aviemore, was dog friendly (thinking of going again in 2 months). It's in woodland and next to trails - main restaurant didn't allow dogs so either ate in the pub or left dog in room.

Hollytree Hotel in Glencoe. Dog friendly and close to loads of dog-walking spots.

Look up Cottages and Castles. They have places that are dog friendly.
My folks use it all the time and have 2 dogs.
Corrour estate is amazing.

How did I not know how stunning Scotland is?!

Not a huge amount to do in the Angus gland though - walking and hills but a bit of a drive to anywhere.

Arran is Scotland in miniature- don't discount Dumfries and Galloway - area around Kippford/ Rockcliff is lovely. Is less of a drive from down South. I adore Mull - i find Skye a bit foreboding!

Lightsdown · 26/11/2018 22:33

Glens- not glands!

puppymouse · 26/11/2018 22:36

Thanks @Lightsdown - I am meant to be going to Dumfries for work early next year so maybe I should combine it!

Crieff Hydro - about half an hour from Perth. Self catering seems to take dogs. Beautiful hotel in superb location.

lillylollylandy · 26/11/2018 23:03

Cameron House In Loch Lomond allows dogs.

@lillylollylandy having stayed there for a very stressful work event many moons ago I don't think I could go back sadly. But the scenery was stunning from what I remember.

Fonab hotel in Pitlochry.

haggisaggis · 29/11/2018 11:21

We’re not long back from a stay at Peebles Hydro with our dog. Not sure if luxurious enough for you but very dog friendly. Dog’s allowed in most public areas except the restaurant - but food also available in the bar where they are allowed. Good walking nearby. It’s also Scottish Borders so not quite as far to drive! However would also recommend these 2 self catering places - although both in North West Scotland so a very long drive but scenery fantastic. Both properties dog friendly. Google Mullach, Clachtoll and this place

HerculesTheBercules · 29/11/2018 12:51

I’ve stayed at Be and Breathe on the Isle of Bute. Which was lovely.

We have been to this place with our dog. It was fantastic.

Portavadie Marina in Argyll- definitely meets your 5 star / dog friendly criteria. Plus waterside/beaches/forest walks.

We were there last week and there were lots of seals- great to watch in the morning.

Plus food/spa/infinity pool is beyond amazing

Nannyloubie · 29/11/2018 14:01

Claymore in Pitlochry is dog friendly
