People need to secure their home webcams

This is scary. I'm on a site where you can see live webcam feeds. Most of them are boring surveillance views, but one or two are of people's houses. Kids playing in a lounge.

CV10 8** secure your webcam if you happen to be on mn.

so no one could stalk you by putting your postcode in? that's not so bad.

Rio18 · 27/11/2018 09:37

Thanks for the heads up, we've just installed one so I have changed the password.

DGRossetti · 27/11/2018 10:47

There is another way to go, which is to flood the internet with fake webcam feeds and nonsense location data. Drown any persons with ill intent in garbage ...

Maybe it's already happened Hmm

Err, less of the 'hysteria' accusations please. I was able to watch a family in their living room with their cat and their kids playing yesterday. That's not good.

I'm fully aware that many of the feeds are public and most are plain dull, but private situations are not on.

Lost half an hour to a bloke in Sidcup having his hair cut. Bit early for a beer with it though mate 😂

FloofenHoofen · 27/11/2018 16:07

It's now gone so I assume it's been taken down.

On a lighter note I was able to watch a man ironing his pink trousers in his apartment in America last night. So that was weird.

It's very very odd that these cameras are just available to view like that!

RunningFeisty · 27/11/2018 16:08

Not being funny but you can't say it's perfectly legal then refuse to name the website. Is it your website OP?

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/11/2018 16:14

The house in Nuneaton is busy tonight, lots of kids playing in the lounge Sad

citiesofbismuth · 27/11/2018 16:17

I suggest you read the thread running

No, it's not my website.

are people just clicking on random stuff? So confused.

also wondering if every office I worked in with CCTV is on the website, but I can't figure it out so never mind. (not that I did anything sinister at work, lol).

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/11/2018 16:30

99% of what is on the site are peoples driveways. CCTV is only viewable if it's not been password protected, otherwise there would be thousands of feeds up there.

In the case of the family from Nuneaton it looks like they have installed a camera to watch their two cats and just plugged it in out of the box without setting up any security. This means it's easily picked up and live fed out to the world. Poor woman has come home tonight with about 5 kids in what I imagine is an identifiable uniform and they are now all playing in the lounge.

I've actually sent a link to the Nuneaton News on Facebook to see if they can post a screen cap to their 23k members who might recognise this house and help them get it down.

The alternative is they know it's being broadcast, which would just be strange I think.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 27/11/2018 16:31

I've only seen cctv of penguins, an owl, some bins and some guy sat on stairs on his phone

Grace212 · 27/11/2018 16:35

penguins, owls, cats....feel like I'm missing out now. Grin

citiesofbismuth · 27/11/2018 16:54

Don't forget the horses, tortoise and tropical fish 😀

The barbers are holding the most fascination for me. Love people watching.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 27/11/2018 17:42

My understanding is that it is illegal in the UK (under privacy laws?), which is why these invasive websites are hosted in Russia and so on?

I think its terribly voyeuristic to watch people in their own homes, or even during activities when at least a degree of privacy can be assumed. I would hate to think some voyeur was watching me or my DCs get our hair cut, for example. People-watching in person in a barbers, café or on a promenade is very different, because all parties are aware, not assuming privacy and are able to watch you in return if they want to.

At least it wasn't our tortoise though!

However, just because you're not on one website today, doesn't mean you won't be on that website or another next week. No need to panic, but just change your camera and WiFi passwords to strong ones, educate your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues, and alert any businesses you use if you're concerned, including nurseries.

If you like watching webcams

I love KITTEN ACADEMY you tube channel SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

They are a couple in USA that foster pregnant cats for a rescue centre and look after them and the kittens until they are adopted

There is a live feed 24/7 on you tube

They are so cute SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Or it's a dummy feed recorded ages ago ....

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 29/11/2018 08:19

Does anyone know how I can search a specific address - want to check elderly MIL is safe as mentioned it to dh & BIL & they think I’m exaggerating so want piece of mind. Thank you Smile

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 11:52

There's no search facility, you just have to go through each page.
