People need to secure their home webcams

This is scary. I'm on a site where you can see live webcam feeds. Most of them are boring surveillance views, but one or two are of people's houses. Kids playing in a lounge.

CV10 8** secure your webcam if you happen to be on mn.

Why the secret over the site?

Sunisshining5346 · 26/11/2018 21:43

I posted on a ladies page today about this! She was asking which baby monitor to get..

People from anywhere in the world can hack them, they hacked into thousands of baby monitors within seconds!!

Anything with a Wi-Fi connection. Or parents that link their baby monitors to their phone!

I binned mine straight away!

One family had been watched from nine different countries..one person in France had watched them for nine hours!!

Better to be safe than sorry!

user187656748 · 26/11/2018 21:44

I posted the site name below

Sunisshining5346 · 26/11/2018 21:56

Oh my god! I have just gone on there..I am the worst person ever with technology etc, and straight away can see the bottom of the stairs in somebody's house!

That is horrific!!

Everybody needs to spread the word about these cameras, devices etc!!

Grace212 · 26/11/2018 22:01

I must be thick because I can't see anything on that insecam

A pp has given a Finchley postcode. I clocked it as it's a Travelodge and I stayed for work recently. So I guess businesses aren't securing their cams either.

I don't have anything like this at home but if I lived in a house I might, so I'm curious to know how it works.

Valasca · 26/11/2018 22:21

OP, I think you need to amend your title to people NORTH of London need to secure their cameras Grin

Website doesn't work on iPad so can't check

DonaldDucksTowel · 26/11/2018 22:39

Am I the only one wondering why the Op was in this website in the first place...?

Katinkka · 26/11/2018 22:46

It works on my iPad... can’t see anything interesting though.

30birthdayholiday · 26/11/2018 22:49

'Valasca'
How do you view the map, please?

xeran · 26/11/2018 22:54

Can someone just say the web address?!

All the ones I’ve googled are public cameras, not private

Wagonwheelsandjammydodgers · 26/11/2018 22:58

N3 1HF might have already been mentioned

citiesofbismuth · 26/11/2018 23:00

I was on the site after following a link on YouTube. Curiosity really.

The webcam in the lounge isn't showing now. I wonder if something has been done.

I am wanting to send it/them to my BIL so he can check the elderly family member one

Please just put all the webcam ones on here please

cos I can't get the insecam to work properly

Jorgezaunders · 26/11/2018 23:10

I had a quick look on insecam - one of the first cameras up is a beach resort in Italy. Of course right now it's night and nothing to see, but in the day, do the people on the beach realise they are being live broadcast to the world?!

Jorgezaunders · 26/11/2018 23:12

Have to say I'm very happy with my 'dumb' house... :)

AwakeNow · 26/11/2018 23:14

Many people don't reset the password from the original one it comes with, I heard that is how they are accessed by others? I don't have cctv yet, but getting it after the new year. We are only getting exterior cams though. I have a link to a website that streams them, easy to find on google use search terms "unsecured cctv stream"

Can you search by postcode?

user187656748 · 27/11/2018 07:39

The stockingford one currently has a family getting ready for school. Perhaps someone knows them and can tell them?

Valasca · 27/11/2018 07:41

30birthday, click on any of the U.K. cameras and then you’ll get details of that camera. Click on the map and then you can zoom around.

I personally think the OP is being slightly hysterical as majority of the cameras are public and they’re difficult to pinpoint. I found one well known public webcam in another country that was listed in a city I use to live in but the webcam shows the name/location and it’s a ski resort 15 km away. If you look through the most popular ones, you can see a cafe in Paris and nobody has actually been able to find it and visit it.

LadyPasserine · 27/11/2018 07:43

The labelled locations and pictures are not the same.

DontHarshMyMello · 27/11/2018 07:54

Or is that not what filtered cameras means? Confused

JollyGiraffe · 27/11/2018 08:34

Anyone else waiting for the hairdressers in Stockport to open? Grin

user1471462428 · 27/11/2018 08:47

I don’t know how to search but could you check whether YO32 is there? We’ve just moved into a rental with CCTV everywhere. Think I’ve spotted and covered most of cameras up but not sure. Thank you
