Family friendly restaurants near Bermondsey

We've got a theatre trip planned in December and I am struggling to think of a nice place to go afterwards.

My criteria:

  • The play is near London Bridge station so looking as close to there as possible, or a short tube ride would be fine
  • must be suitable for a fairly well behaved four year old - he's pretty well trained in restaurants but I wouldn't want to be annoying the clientele at anywhere too faine daining
  • must have a delicious menu with good vegan options (don't want to leave the two vegans in the party having to put up with a side salad and a piece of bread!)

Any ideas would be gratefully received 😊

Lantana is nice (on Southwark St).

@Walkingthroughawall thank you! I'll take a look!

Is it Bermondsey or London Bridge you’re looking for ?

rosettesforjill · 27/11/2018 14:55

@JennyHolzersGhost either really. The theatre is on Tooley St so closer to London Bridge, but we will be going to a flat near Bermondsey Square afterwards so would consider either area.

Do you mean Bermondsey Street (5 mins from Tooley St) rather than Bermondsey itself? Bermondsey is a bit further along (it's a tube ride from London Bridge) - about 15/20 min walk.

Bermondsey Street has quite a few restaurants, but you could also look around Shad Thames - lots of nice places there too (Blue Print Cafe is nice - lovely views).

Ah you’re going to the Unicorn!
Are you eating evening or lunchtime ? And are you looking for a properly restaurant-y place or a more casual cafe/chain restaurant vibe ?

@FiddleFigs we know Bermondsey St quite well but always end up going to the same places really - normally Franco Manca or Flour and Grape as they're pretty good for the vegans. Would be keen to broaden our horizons! Tube ride would be fine.

@JennyHolzersGhost We are 😊 I think something fairly relaxed would be nice - but would want a proper meal rather than a soup and sandwich type thing really.

Oh sorry, it'll be a Sunday lunch. It'll be peak festive time though so keen to book rather than risk a walk in!

I was just going to say Franco Manca ! Blush

There are looooooads of great places in and around Borough market if you can venture over there ? Arabica should be good for vegans. Elliots is pretty relaxed. Wokit for stir fry. Tas, which is a couple of blocks south, also good vegan options I think.

Alternatively north of LB station there’s a Côte, a Cafe Rouge and a pub that does the usual pub fare in Hays Galleria on the river. There’s a Chinese/Asian place called Dim T a couple of blocks east of there.

On Tooley St itself, just east of LB station, there’s a Mexican place called Chilango, a Thai place called Suchards and a Jamie’s Italian in the Hilton hotel.
