If money was no object what would you have at a party?

This is kind of real - a v rich friend is planning a garden party and wanted ideas. But also it led me into fantasy territory too. She is thinking of things like petting zoos, magicians and photo booths. Party is all day and into the evening in a hall with fields around it and all ages with lots of kids up to about age 60.

Live jazz band

ScreamingValenta · 26/11/2018 12:29

Magicians are a good idea. I'd find a petting zoo off-putting - the environment of a party would be stressful for the animals. Photo-booths seem a bit pointless now that most people can take pictures with their phones.

Really, good food, drink and music are all you need!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 26/11/2018 12:29

plenty of booze, good food, good music or musician for dancing too and a bouncy castle for the kids.

thecatsthecats · 26/11/2018 13:13

Bouncy castle for the adults.

WakeUpSlow · 26/11/2018 13:20

Fire pit, live band, cocktail/ mocktail bar, circus entertainers, good outdoor lighting, lots of random lovely seating areas as well as a main space for dancing.

Foslady · 26/11/2018 13:21

Old fashioned fairground with gallopers

YBR · 26/11/2018 13:22

Barndance/ceilidh band and caller - provided there are enough people prepared to join in.

spanishwife · 26/11/2018 13:23
  • Full catering with waiters
  • Bar/cocktails with staff - create up some cocktails named after party hosts
  • Live music
  • Magician walking around or something interactive like Cirque du Soleil type group
  • Photo booths are still so fun, not the same as taking pics on phones! Nothing like having a printed photo to take home

Magician / entertainment and games for the children

Loads of excellent food and drink

Great music

Really comfortable places to sit inside and out

Great decor - is the hall nice?

TealTurnip · 27/11/2018 12:56

I’m reminded of the Queen album launch party where they had dwarves walking around with plates of cocaine on their heads.

NonaGrey · 27/11/2018 12:57

A live band
Staff to serve
Beautiful lights and decorations in the garden
Nice rented seating and tables
Street performers (depending on the size of the garden)
A carousel (if enough space)
Cool rented outdoor toys for the children and staff to organise games/races etc
Very, very nice porta loos (never enough loos at garden parties)

Why doesn’t she hire an events company to handle it all for her?

Racecardriver · 27/11/2018 13:00

Helter skelter, carousel (lovely old fashioned one), ponies/camels, cotton candy/icecre for the children. Along with some acrobats, magicians, clowns etc to keep the children entertained. For the adults a jazz band, a well stocked bar with a mixologist (for the young uns) and a shit load of Dom for the rest. Maybe a comedian or a contortionist. I would suggest looking up on google ‘Adelaide Garden on Unearthly Delights’ for ideas.

Lattesforlife · 27/11/2018 13:01

I’ve name changed as my friends 40th was incredible but recognisable. She had a 2 day festival in her garden, shish tent, circus tent with acrobatics / fire breathers / magicians. A series of live bands that were on continuously. 2 (paid for) bars, 3 food vans, chill out areas.... she put up tents for people to camp in her garden, there was VIP showers and loos. It was both incredible, and awe inspiring at the same time. For my birthday my son got me malteasers and we watched a film together Grin

mummmy2017 · 27/11/2018 13:03

Ask you local to do a bar for you..
Maybe get a couple of childminders to run a crèche, as being stuck with the baby is sometimes hard.

silkpyjamasallday · 27/11/2018 13:04

A giant flower wall, of real highly scented flowers.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/11/2018 13:05

a controversial one here, but if the site permitted, I'd have loads of bloody great fireworks (obviously not at the same time as the petting zoo).

I was invited (as a plus one) to a rich guy's 50th, and there were fireworks over the river at the end of the night.

newmumwithquestions · 27/11/2018 13:06

www.flashmobjazz.com/about-me

^^ this band

noenergy · 27/11/2018 13:08

Ice cream van
Bouncy castle or fairground rides
Great food like a variety of different stalls cooking fresh food so it's hot

newmumwithquestions · 27/11/2018 13:09

Personally not the petting zoo - I’m not sure about the animal transport/stress to animals (different when they’re at ‘home’ and brought out for an hour. Also some people don’t like touching animals/worry about germs etc.

Oh and as well as flash mob jazz (the band above? I’d have a string quartet playing as guests arrive.
