Ikea meatballs not from Ikea

I remember reading about a supermarket that does meatballs that taste indistinguishable from the ikea ones - anyone remember which supermarket this is and know whether it is true. It is Ds's favourite dinner but getting to Ikea not massively easy for us and even when I stock up three bags at a time they go quickly.

did they not have horse meat in them?!

sorry, not helpful.

I have had supermarket own ones that tased pretty much the same, think it was Iceland (kottbullar or something).

Sainsbury's.

Iceland do swedish meatballs. V similar but a bit smaller in size.

FitzChivalryFarseer · 25/11/2018 22:24

Go to Costco, you can get big packs of Swedish meatballs. Alternatively, though less practical, get a Swedish SIL to make them for you. The latter option has worked well for me Grin

Lidl, occasionally - Swedish week? Flatpack week? Random shite in freezer week?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/11/2018 22:26

Sainsburys do them.

You need 'scan swedish meatballs' or the Morrison's 'german meatballs'. Basically anything pre cooked that's a mix of pork and beef. Yummy.

Not sure if this is something you’d consider but the quorn Swedish meatballs are actually the ones we find closest to the Ikea ones! (And we are meat eaters too, so not eating them from a point of view of having to from being veggie).

We cook them in the oven for 25 mins and I make an Ikea ish gravy with bisto, half milk and half water and a squirt of soy sauce. Comes out cracking!

redsummershoes · 25/11/2018 22:30

many supermarkets do swedish style meatballs.
for the gravy just make any old bisto half with milk, half water.

I found the Costco ones really greasy, not nice at all.
