Gin glass?

What kind of glass is traditional for gin? I've bought some lovely botanicals for a Christmas present, and want to get a nice glass to go along with them. But I've seen all sorts of glasses being used for gin! I'm not a drinker myself so don't have a clue.
Please help!

These balloon shaped glasses have become popular again over the last few years www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_11?sprefix=gin+glasses%2Caps%2C185&crid=3CYY2B7E32S7U&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Agin+glasses&tag=mumsnetforum-21&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gin+glasses

Apparently they're a quite retro style, but then people started using highball style glasses for many years - and now the balloon ones have come back into fashion Gin

After being out last night and having quiet a few gins they look really pretty in the balloon style glasses.

My friend and I were commenting on how they used to come in a tall thin glass like a vodka etc but they're much better now because you can get plenty on ice in to keep the drink cool for longer and not end up with a horrible watery drink.

Personal preference, but I don't like the balloon glasses. I've been drinking gin for years and much prefer a tall straight glass

Gin should be served in a stemmed glass with a wide opening to allow the aromas to circulate and hit your nose before you take a sip. The stem is to keep your G&T cold as it keeps your hands away from the liquid.

It doesn’t really matter though, highball or balloon are both good choices :) any glass with gin in is a winner 😂

I agree about the balloon glasses - despite having just posted a link! I prefer my G&T in a highball glass, don't really like the balloon ones at all!

On the look out for an inexpensive gin glass if anyone sees one? Looking for one rather than a set.

I got a free Balon with my last bottle of Tanqueray 10 in Spain and I've seen lots in Xmas gift sets here. I personally prefer it but my friend who is a real gin drinker insists on a tall glass and actually sends it back if its served in a BalonShock.

Ooh controversial! It's for my mum and I'm pretty sure she's of the Stephisaur school of thought - any glass as long as there's gin in it! Grin

I'll have a look round tumpymummy , I think a highball might be easier to find as a single rather than a balloon one but I'll let you know!
