What’s the one thing you always spend top dollar on?

For me it’s bedding. Even when I was on the bare bones of my arse I still wouldn’t buy polyester and saved saved for one set of perfect white company bedding. It’s lasted years.

My bed we spent an absolute fortune on it 3 years ago but honestly I've enjoyed it every night and nice bedding I brought a £350 total set the other month in the house of fraser sale honestly it's a pleasure I cant afford more than one set at the moment so I strip it and put it back on the same day

Y@SerendipityFelix what bra brand do you like?

I also love bedding & latex pillows & pure down or wool duvets. Plants & makeup too. And now falke socks.

explodingkitten · 28/11/2018 00:04

A woolen winter coat. I need a good one to keep me warm. So many coats don't insulate enough.

EmeraldVillage · 28/11/2018 00:07

Dentistry
Mattress

MeMeMeow85 · 28/11/2018 00:08

Eye cream. It’s magic though, so totally worth it

buckeejit · 28/11/2018 00:13

@MeMeMeow85 what eye cream?!

Also smelly candles

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/11/2018 00:25

The cinema — I don't go often, but when I do I go to the little independent Art Deco one with a full bar where you sit on a sofa and are given a glass of water and some Pringles, rather than the big Cineworld one which is about £5 cheaper. I know the film is exactly the same, but I just enjoy it more!

Also shoes and winter coat. I walk a lot so it's worth it.

Mozzarella, I always buy the stuff made with buffalo milk (and if I find it reduced I grab it.) I put this down to being part Italian and wanting the good stuff.
Hot chocolate. The cheap stuff is shite. I buy Green and Black's which although expensive, tastes nice and actually dissolves so I don't end up with 2cm of sludge at the bottom of the cup. (I've noticed a lot of the plain drinking chocolate tastes funny at the moment, like a burnt taste, I dunno if the cocoa harvest was funny or what.)

Food - we're in Canada and only buy organic for our fresh food. We go to the farmers' market weekly for fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat and fish, and get bread, cheese and deli type stuff from the Italian market.

Clothes - DP and I both love expensive outdoor clothing and equipment. We have tons of Icebreaker merino stuff, Fjallraven, Arc'teryx, Patagonia etc. at up to £200 for a pair of trousers and £300++ for coats, and we both have lots of them. I love Lululemon workout gear too. We spend most weekends camping/hiking/snowshoeing/skiing in the mountains though so we get the use of it all.

Cars and tyres - decent cars and top quality winter tyres are essential here; DP spent $1200 on a new set of winters for my SUV last week.

longwayoff · 28/11/2018 08:54

M&S Cornish Cruncher Cheddar. No competition.

longwayoff · 28/11/2018 09:00

Polkadots, you're right about the cinema. We have a similar, more expensive than big Cineworld, but with loads of legroom, sofa seats, glass of wine, really comfortable. Would bankrupt you to take the family but for a lone outing or just partner it's pleasant rather than an endurance test.

shamalawa · 28/11/2018 09:15

fieryginger · 28/11/2018 09:27

Bizarrely, lampshades. I'm a sucker for really unusual ones.

I have a 'thing' about textiles too and unusual ooak ornaments.

I think, as I approach 50, I've learned to embrace my own sweet style. It's been very liberating, I hate things that match, like mugs or plates. I'd much rather buy 1 or 2 beautiful plates at a time, than a set of 6 for the same price. Walking out of a shop with a single gorgeous mug/plate/set of pillow cases, is a treat for me.

wendywoopywoo222 · 28/11/2018 09:59

Bras. Spend more on them than any other clothing or shoes.

amusedbush · 28/11/2018 10:24

Skincare and make up - I've used Clinique three step system for years now. Every so often I try something cheaper else but it's just not the same so I go back to it. I don't wear "drug store" make up brands either.

Handbags. All of my clothes and shoes are bought in sales/on ebay/with discount codes, I get three haircuts a year, I budget my food, I limit myself to one takeaway coffee a week, I don't have a car (or kids, which saves cash Grin)... but I do love an expensive handbag. I generally do buy them during special events or sales but they are still £££££ even with reductions Blush

citiesofbismuth · 28/11/2018 12:05

Cat food. It helps to maintain good health and keeps them happy.
