What’s the one thing you always spend top dollar on?

For me it’s bedding. Even when I was on the bare bones of my arse I still wouldn’t buy polyester and saved saved for one set of perfect white company bedding. It’s lasted years.

Not top-dollar but definitely not cheap - boots, coats and bedclothes/towels. No polyester bed linen and my white company towels are still super fluffy 3 years in. My last pair of boots were £75, reduced from £170 and lasted 6 winters which was actually very good value!

Washing powder!
Underwear for my DP.
Trainers for Older 2 children (they will not wear primark/supermarket brands etc- trainers must be for Bday or Xmas pressies though)

wellhonestly · 25/11/2018 16:51

Jumpers - not "top dollar" as such but pretty much merino and cashmere.

wellhonestly · 25/11/2018 16:52

Oh, and shoes must be leather or textile - not plastic.

OuchLegoHurts · 25/11/2018 16:54

Health insurance, food, foundation, bras

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/11/2018 16:58

Nice organic ground coffee. Was buying the Sainsburys Fair Trade one, but have discovered that Morrisons do one for £2.50, which is quite a bit cheaper, and as nice IMHO.
Also, I refuse to buy cheap shoes. I'd rather have less of them.

EffOrf · 25/11/2018 16:58

Food
Shoes and boots
Raincoat
Concert tickets

Shoes. I've spent far too long crippling my feet in cheap shoes that just don't fit, now I have proper supportive comfortable boots that I can walk for miles in.

Tyres. I drive over 400 miles a week on motorways in all weather conditions so I need to have decent tyres on my car. Cheap Chinese tyres might be adequate for just pootling to the local school & shops, but my car needs the best.

Meat. I would rather eat really good meat just once a week, than economy pies, sausages & burgers every day.

JellieEllie · 25/11/2018 17:14

Lipstick. It's the only thing I will pay extortionate prices for.
Anything else I'll bargain hunt.

PawneeParksDept · 25/11/2018 17:24

Meat.

Can't bear cheap meat.

Not really bothered about designer goods but I do like a Cath Kidston bag

Mishappening · 25/11/2018 17:29

Firewood - I pay over the odds to get kiln dried. It fires up straight away and burns without tar clagging up the stove door and the chimney, which would otherwise need sweeping more often.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 25/11/2018 17:32

Meat.
Health - spectacles, over the counter remedies, footcare etc.
Chocolate - palm oil free tends to mean pricey.
Tea or coffee - don't drink it myself, but keep 'good' brands for guests.

RatRolyPoly · 25/11/2018 17:34

The central heating!

I'm generally really frugal in every single way I can be, but fuck it if I work full time to be cold! It's just not worth it, it makes me so fundamentally miserable, if I could afford only heat or food I'd choose to be hungry but warm.

CS12345 · 25/11/2018 17:40

Perfume. I can't stand anything off the shelf in boots. I like rare, unique weird perfume.

With pretty much everything else, I love a good bargain, although I can't abide shopping and spending money generally, so avoid it mostly

LegoandiPads · 25/11/2018 17:45

Children’s shoes and scented candles.

LegoandiPads · 25/11/2018 17:46

ForalltheSaints · 25/11/2018 17:51

A mattress when buying a new one.
Meat or fish for Sunday's main meal (usually lunch).

katseyes7 · 25/11/2018 17:52

Fitflops. l've worn them since l broke my ankle 20 years ago, and l still have the ones l bought then. l wear them every day (not the same pair, l have a few!) and they're wonderful. lt's like wearing slippers, l can tramp round town all day in them, and my feet don't hurt.
l got my newest pair of boots last year in a sale for less than half price, and they're worth every penny even if l pay full price. l have three pairs of boots, one of clogs, and two pairs of sandals.
Oh, and nice bedding and towels. l usually buy the hotel quality bedding at HomeSense. Always white, and a decent thread count. The more you wash them, the softer they get. And everything matches.

bugaboo218 · 25/11/2018 17:52
