What breakdown cover do you suggest?

I need a reasonable, reliable company. I drive long distances regularly. Don't need home start. I've used the RAC for decades, but their renewal price is ridiculous now and their sales office annoy me! I need my husband covering too, so two cars, both 11yr old cars.

I’ve used the AA for years and they’ve been great when I needed them.

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 00:20

I get AA with my bank account. It may work out cheaper with a benefits package on your current account.
I pay 20 monthly for AA, phone insurance, travel insurance world wide and boiler cover.

empmalswa · 25/11/2018 00:26

I use green flag. It's £6 a month for decent cover. Much cheaper than the AA quote.

I'm with Start Rescue. Brilliant service.

SpoonBlender · 25/11/2018 00:41

Green Flag have been great for me, but to be fair so have AA and RAC. The prices at GF are far more reasonable though!

Which bank is that Bellabonkers? I need to look into that, and Green flag.
AA have been so £ and dreadful when we needed them.

ScoobyDooby18 · 25/11/2018 08:18

Green flag. Good cover, and clever app if you download it as the GPS tells them exactly where you are (In the moment, I once found myself unable to describe to my previous cover where I actually was!). If you primarily drive only one vehicle, attach it to just that car for a cheaper rate (as opposed to covering you in any car).

Honeyroar · 25/11/2018 18:59

I've gone for Start Rescue, nearly a third cheaper than RAC/AA/Green Flag and a couple of people at work mentioned them as being good as well.

Hi. I'm with Lloyds on a premier account. It's saved money definitely 3in4years

ShotsFired · 25/11/2018 20:31

Autoaid. ~£40 year for a comparably top notch level compared to the big brands.

TheMarbleFaun · 25/11/2018 20:32

Watching with interest as I agree the RAC renewal has got out of hand and their customer service has become dreadful

stubbornstains · 25/11/2018 20:40

During my many conversations on the subject with independent recovery drivers, usually on long cross country drives with one or another of the clapped out bangers I've owned over the years on the back, they usually rate the big three thus: Best Green Flag, then AA, then (trailing by a mile, and often accompanied by descriptive profanities) the RAC. This is borne out by some of my friends' bad experiences with the RAC, as well.

I'm with Green Flag now Grin

(If you want to meet lots of independent recovery drivers, get breakdown cover through your insurance (and drive an old banger Grin)).

Brittania, call assist, or interpartner.

DP is a breakdown and recovery mechanic for abs independent garage but they are subcontracted by almost every breakdown company and he says those three are the best.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 25/11/2018 20:48

An not abs

ManicPixieDream · 25/11/2018 20:54

I got a policy via MoneysavingExpert that covers myself and my husband rather than the car. It was pretty reasonable as I remember. Have a look on the site.
