Looking for better broadband package [Edited by MNHQ at OP's request]

Been with BT for ever. We have a package (no contract) including phone line, BT sport that we don't use, broadband speed of only about 27 mb (live in London). Anyway, it costs nearly £80. Per month. Shock

I'm fed up with that.

Apparently we could get a similar deal (- the sport) with EE, same speed, for about half that. Or Virgin for about that and up to 100mb, but about £40.

What do people think of Virgin? Or EE?

  1. how is their customer service?
  2. do prices get ramped up quickly?
  3. DH wary the new line we'd need from Virgin would be installed badly. (Not sure if he has a point)

It would be great if people could share their experiences please.

Smile

We were on Virgin/Ntl for 20 years. Not cheap, but we had the full phone/TV/broadband package. Speed could hit 170 Mbps, rarely dropped below 100.

Ooh right @DisgraceToTheYChromosome was it more expensive than my £70 a month BT package?

About £100 pm, but the alternative was BT or Sky at less than 5mbps. Because our old hometown had been cabled back in the 80s, Ntl had a head start and ADSL never really got going.

Thanks.

I'm just fed up with bt charging so much but don't want to change and then they put it up after a couple of months.

Call BT and explain to them that you’d like to end your deal because you’re paying far too much. Tell them virgin and EE will offer you X deal for Y amount of money and they will very likely offer you something better. We pay £27.99 a month for 60mpbs +. Broadband only!!

Toddlerteaplease · 25/11/2018 17:55

I've got EE. Superheat WIFi only. No complaints!

Definitely change providers.

BT charge a ridiculous amount. There's no reward for customer loyalty any more.

We'd stuck with them for ages too until I realised we were paying about twice as much as we should be. I found a really good package with Plusnet. I phoned BT to cancel our package. Of course, all of a sudden they are bending over backwards to offer us a better deal. I spoke to someone really persuasive and ended up staying with BT. Instantly they started overcharging us again and I really had to fight to get the deal I was promised. I was so cross that I'd let them talk me into staying!

As soon as our contract is up I'm definitely changing.

So I'd say leave BT (and don't let them talk you into staying!) Have a look at talktalk or moneysavingexpert for the current best deals.

Thanks for the info.

When I rang BT, after we'd spoken to EE, they told me that they don't engage in price wars with other companies. I said I'd be thinking about my options but haven't yet said I'm leaving. I wouldn't exactly be shocked if they would then offer me a better deal.
