My cat has this injury. How to treat??

My cat came home with a big lump on his head 2 days ago with blood coming out a tiny hole. Now it looks like this photo ove attached. How should I treat it? He's been licking his paw and frantically rubbing the area for about half and hour now.

Hi Op, I came on this morning to make sure you hadn't been hung, drawn and quartered. I was literally opened jawed reading some of the nasty comments towards you last night.

Hope you manage to see the vet at some point to put your mind at rest and that it isn't a stressful car journey for your cat. The fact he's eating and not obviously stressed at home tells me he's dealing fine with it but best to get it checked out. Hope you have a good Sunday and ignore some of the more (literally) 'bonkers' folks on here

Wolfiefan · 25/11/2018 09:13

Dealing fine with it? Dear God did you see the picture? There is no way that cat isn’t in pain. Never mind DH and his parents owning cats before. If he thinks that wound doesn’t need vet attention then he has pretty bloody low standards.
I hope you’ve stopped making excuses and have now FINALLY done the right thing.

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 09:14

If being bonkers means I care about a suffering animal with a gaping infected open wound..il stay bonkers thanks.

Someone from the RSPCA has also said it needed urgent attention.
They must be bonkers too Hmm

ProfessorMoody · 25/11/2018 09:21

Being bonkers? For having enough knowledge about animals to know that needs antibiotics and the OP has left it suffering for days?

The only "bonkers" ones are those who would have left it for that long.

Also that's a really fucking ableist term.

empmalswa · 25/11/2018 09:22

I also know that abscesses are horrible but not life threatening emergencies. Providing this is an abcess then I would have left it overnight too.

But would you have left it for 2 days before posting on Mumsnet and then leaving it for a further overnight?

No. Most people would have taken the car to the vet, TWO days ago!

ProfessorMoody · 25/11/2018 09:26

A broken leg isn't usually life threatening either, but would an animal be left to suffer then? probably in this case

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 09:29

Professormoody think it was supposed to be a snide dig at my username and the fact I called the op out on her neglect.

As sad as this thread is I am so glad that like you and many others, we actually look after our animals.

ProfessorMoody · 25/11/2018 09:35

Yes, leaving an animal to suffer is one of the most abhorrent things anyone could do - thankfully it seems that most of us here are decent pet owners.

ElizabethMainwaring · 25/11/2018 09:37

'Nasty comments'! No-one has been nasty at all. I think everyone has been very reserved in the face of such cruelty and neglect. It's blatantly obvious that the cat needs to go to the damn vet.

minkies11 · 25/11/2018 10:24

Glad he was eating this morning and hope he has been seen by the vet. Cats will scrap in new territories as they sort out their pecking order so you might have to keep an eye on him in the future.

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 10:53

An eye on him in the future. She didn't care about an open wound for 3 days.
How some of you can be so blase and calm as anything is beyond me.

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 10:56

And no update tells me everything.

Crunchymum · 25/11/2018 11:10

Did you get to the vet OP?

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 11:14

I wholly guarantee this woman will not update how the cat is.

Dragone · 25/11/2018 11:20

DCat is at the vets right now. DH was nightshift so he has taken him now he's home. The info on Google said it opened at 8.30 so I called then and their voicemail said 10.30 Hmm

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 25/11/2018 11:39

Let us know how he gets on.

I'm sure all will be fine. Now you'll just have the joy if getting him to take antibiotics Grin

Dragone · 25/11/2018 12:01

DCat is home and fine if not a little traumatised getting poked and prodded with the added surprise of a thermometer up his backside.

Vet thinks it was an abscess after a fight. He got a jag, the pus squeezed out and then some cream slathered on it. He's got an appt to go back next week.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Good to hear OP. I'm sure he's happy to be home and settled.

Bellabonkers · 25/11/2018 12:06

Thankfully you did the right thing. Good for you. Don't ever let any pet of yours suffer like that again.

SilverySurfer · 25/11/2018 12:34

Glad he has been seen by the vet, albeit 3 days late Hmm

Crunchymum · 25/11/2018 14:14

Better late than never as the saying goes.

HildaZelda · 25/11/2018 15:15

Absolutely disgusted that you left your poor cat go FOUR days like that. If you're not prepared to care for cats properly then you shouldn't have one. Or any other animal either Angry

abbsisspartacus · 25/11/2018 17:02

Hope it gets better soon, does he have antibiotics?

ilovesooty · 25/11/2018 17:08

Glad he's been seen now. I hope he makes a good recovery.
