Restaurant tonight near Glasgow central station?

Off to a conference in Glasgow city centre with my boss and colleague today, 2 day thing. Weeks ago, I asked him if I should make a dinner reservation for tonight. Oh no, he said we’d be fine.
He’s text this morning saying we now need to book a restaurant for tonight at 7pm.
I can’t find anywhere half decent with availability. Any ideas? Any hidden gems? How likely is it to be able to walk in to restaurants in Glasgow on a sat night and get a table ? Has to be nice but not fine dining. Thanks !

You will need to book if you want somewhere nice i’m Afraid. 5pm is your friend here.

where's your accommodation? might widen your search area a bit, and what kind of food?

Fabellini · 24/11/2018 12:01

The Grill on the Corner might be an option, steaks and stuff, it’s nice, but not too fancy.

BabbysYed · 24/11/2018 12:04

Radisson Blu. I knew this would happen!
Any type of food really just not mega cheap chains or super fine dining.

Grill on the corner needs a booking. The central hotel has a nice restaurant called tempus. It’s actually in the station, Di maggios do cheap Italian, princes square has several restaurants, further away has the merchant city with cosmopolitan or arta. Several good Indians nearby, Bombay blues, charcoals, Kama sutra. Gusto on Bothwell street or viva Italian is a lovely wee restaurant and not too expensive. 5 minutes walk from the station on
Bothwell Street.

naicepineapple · 24/11/2018 12:08

Have you tried Tempus in grand central hotel?

naicepineapple · 24/11/2018 12:08

Spanish butcher is amazing

Fluffyears · 24/11/2018 12:09

Radiation blu...gusto, grill on the corner or viva are the next street up. Bothwell Street a two minute walk away. I work in the area so can time my walk from central really well lol.

DH and I struggled a few weeks ago without a booking - ended up in Iberica. They have a bar area (but nice tables) that serves the same menu as main restaurant but you don't need to book.

Barolo has availability from 730.

WeeDoughball · 24/11/2018 12:14

We've also walked into Chakoo (St Vincent Street) without a booking and the food is really good

Fabellini · 24/11/2018 12:18

Or Merchant Square - used to be an indoor market...there are several restaurants there that all offer varying menus. Nice bars too.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/11/2018 13:00

Chaakoo has amazing food. I'd definitely try there!

BabbysYed · 24/11/2018 13:23

Thanks for all suggestions !! Has anyone tried Alston Bar and Beef?

I doubt you’ll get a table in Alston on a Saturday night. But it’s very good, if you do get in.

fakeplasticbush · 24/11/2018 13:29

A quick search on 5pm.co.uk shows availability at Cafe Source at St Andrews in the Square. I've not been for years but remember it being very nice.

BabbysYed · 24/11/2018 13:36

Booked Barolo for 7.30! Thanks everyone and WeeDoughball

Alston is lovely but packed. Never tried Barolo. Hope it’s good.

Junebug123 · 24/11/2018 16:49

Came on to say Alston's. Quite expensive but we had a brilliant night/ meal out here.

Junebug123 · 24/11/2018 16:50

Ah you sorted already. Next time!

WeeDoughball · 24/11/2018 19:34

No problem, hope you enjoy 😊 we're just back from Platform at the Arches, good street food if you fancy a post meal snack 😂
