Hi, new on here, my LB turn 4 months on the 3rd of August, he is breast fed mainly with the odd formula bottle, ^^he seems to be rather interested in food now, watches me eat, mimics mouth movement etc.. now I know weaning has changed in guidelines to 6months but used to be 4 months, my mum and nan, seem to think he is hungrier in the day, so just wondering what is best just to try him with? Fresh puree fruit, baby rice... I just want to try him with something to see but no idea what to start with.. please help any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance xx

I'm assuming you mean he was born on the 3rd August and is coming up to 4 months old?

The guidelines are not to wean at all until after 18 weeks and ideally after 26.

I've started at around 23/24 weeks with both of mine as at that age they were able to sit upright in their highchair and pick up food/preloaded spoons by themselves and put them in their mouths themselves, and actually eat it rather than the tongue reflex forcing it back out.

The signs you have mentioned can indicate that the baby is interested in food but it they don't indicate that the baby is actually physically ready to eat it.

I wouldn't hurry to wean a baby that's not quite physically ready. It's a very messy business.

If he seems hungrier I would try and increase his milk feeds. Milk has more calories and nutrition than baby rice or pureed fruit and veg and will satisfy his appetite better.
