My head is itchy & it's definitely not headlice

Any ideas what else it might be? It's driving me nuts!

(I've been in KS1 all week so checked for lice first & have done a couple of times this week but definitely not them)

I have a permanently itchy head. Scalp psoriasis. Developed when I was in my early 30's.

imstartingtobemenow · 24/11/2018 08:38

I had this - kept thinking it was lice - but apparently sulphates can cause this, so I bought a sulphate free shampoo ( loreal low shampoo) and after 4 weeks the itchiness and skin flakes have gone.

lucysmam · 24/11/2018 09:20

Hmmm, I've googled scalp psoriasis, I don't have any flakiness from what I can see of my head in the mirror.

I'll try the sulfate free shampoo since we're off to town & I can pick some up.

I've had enormously itchy head after a couple of different products - tresemme shampoo and L'Oréal excellence hair dye the worst.

I sometimes get an itchy scalp when I'm dehydrated.

WhyAmISoCold · 24/11/2018 16:13

Mine was when I switched to herbal essences shampoo and conditioner. Changed and it was much better. I also find it happens when my hair is greasy.

MummySharkDoodoododoo · 24/11/2018 16:15

I get this sometimes, it gets insanely itchy. I use t gel medicated shampoo and it's great. Stinks but it's really good.

Do you live in a hard water area?
I live in London, had a very itchy head from build-up from hard water. I use clarifying shampoo once a week now to sort of detox my scalp (normal but gentle shampoo the other times)

NancyDonahue · 24/11/2018 16:18

Lice can hide incredibly well. I would slap on a load of conditioner and do a thorough nit combing just to be safe.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 24/11/2018 16:19

I changed to herbal essences shampoo recently and it triggered eczema which I only get as an allergic reaction now and again

keepingbees · 24/11/2018 16:35

Have you changed shampoos? There are loads that give me a really itchy scalp, as others have mentioned Tresemme and Herbal Essences are some of the culprits for me.

PuppyMonkey · 24/11/2018 16:42

I get scalp psoriasis - sulfate free shampoos made mine worse. T-gel or Phillip Kingsley itch flaky scalp shampoo works for me.

Sexnotgender · 24/11/2018 16:45

Check your conditioner for itchy Ms. They’re preservatives and will be near the end of the list of ingredients.

Very long words beginning with M, they make my head itch like crazy!

smerlin · 24/11/2018 16:45

Stress? I get an itchy/spotty scalp when run down or stressed

BiscuitDrama · 24/11/2018 16:48

If you want one with no SLS and nothing else that could be an irritant, the Jason one here is the best I’ve found. I have a very sensitive scalp!
