veryLong story short, my mom lives on her own but I’m currently staying with her with my 3 children until we find a place, we’ve been here for 3 months and in this time I’ve noticed there’s been so many people knocking at the door for money (she works 12 hours a week she only gets £249 a month and has to pay her council tax and rent out of that) it’s not my place to say anything so up to now I haven’t opened my mouth becuase it’s not my house nor my money until one particular incident a couple of days ago.
I had left to go shopping and when I got back I realised something in the front garden had been moved so I asked her was there strong winds? And she said no a man had knocked on the door and offered to cut down her connifers, I said how much has that cost you? And she replied ‘well he wanted £100, I said I can’t do that, so he said £80 I said I can’t do that either so he said what can you do and I said £40 and he said we’ll make it £50 and it took him 10 minutes”
Quite frankly she doesn’t have £50 it’s the end of November and she can’t even afford to buy a loaf of bread! I’ve been putting all the gas and electric and food in the house but that’s another rant for another day.
When the guy came the next day for the Money I was on my own with my 2 children while my eldest was at school, a woman knocked first and I explained she was pressured into saying yes and I’m sorry but she doesn’t have it, so she said I’m gonna have to go and get what ever his name was, he gets out of his little van and starts giving it the whole “I ain’t no cowboy she asked me to do a job and I did it” and started telling me about how he lost his son 14 years ago just how my dad died which hit a nerve becuase how dare he bring my dad into it which means he must have reduced my mom into talking about how she lost her husband to cancer- I thought you absolute joke. ANYWAY. He left in a huge huff and said great I’ve done the work for nothing god bless you bye. And left.
I did feel bad, he had done a job so I called him
About 10 minutes later (he left a card which I can’t find the company ANYWHERE online) and I said I can do £30 but that’s all I can do I’m
Homeless myself and he was so rude saying “I’m a very busy man I’ll be there in half
An hour” he shown up within 5 minutes which just tells me he was close by. The woman knocked again and I handed her the £30 and she was really appreciative of it and he goes to get out of his van becuase he must think trouble is kicking off- at this point I’m in tears to the girl, and she turns around and tells him “she’s just upset get back in the van” I already have a marker on the house by police from a D&V (my girls dad) but I felt so threatened by this man that I felt I had to pay him the £30 or he’d be back. I’ve put signs up on the house to say no sellers but I can’t shake the feeling that he’ll still be back. What a horrible world.
