Help me find a song to sing

I've been asked to sing at an event in December. The theme of the evening is Space (boring) and so my friend is going to do Fly Me to the Moon. I don't have** to stick to the theme if I can justify doing something else. The evening is to mark the end of a group of students' training in events management.

My friend is a big jazz fan, but I'm not, so not many ideas for a song in the same genre. Happy to go for something different though, if I know it and the audience knows it (wide age range). Don't fancy Space Oddity.

Somebody suggested a low-key Show Must Go On (with piano accompaniment) as it's a motto in the events industry. Happy to give it a go, it's one of my favourite songs, but don't want people thinking I've got delusions of grandeur trying to follow Freddie Mercury.

I'm self-taught as a singer and my voice is stronger in a low key, so I can give some welly to songs sung by men. I can hit high notes too, but without the same power.

Any ideas for songs? Or confidence boosters that I can in fact go out there and sing a song I've always dreamed of performing?

TIA!

Could you manage the key for Moondance by Van Morrison, if that appeals at all?

SmilingButClueless · 23/11/2018 17:42

If it’s in December you could always go for A Spaceman Came Travelling!

Otherwise, how about Rocket Man (Elton John), Man on the Moon (REM) or, if comedy would go down well, The Galaxy Song (Monty Python)

Serenade by Steve Miller Band?

Some brilliant ideas on here, thanks everyone!

Can't believe I didn't think of Life on Mars. LOVE that song.

Will run them all past the other singer and see what she says!

How about Lost in space, by the lighthouse family? Not about space really, but it's a beautiful song, and it does have the word space in it...
