I'd like to buy a laptop, don't have one, never had any sort of colour or at home.

All I want to do it sone admin, internet, and store photos (I take lots) . What do I need to look out for? I have no idea.

Computers have 3 main performance criteria - clock speed (how quickly they do things) measured in Gigahertz; 2-5 should suffice. RAM - (how big a thing can your computer process in one go) measured in gigabytes; 4-8 is good. And ROM (aka space) which is how much stuff they can store on themselves. ROM is less important these days as a lot of stuff is cloud stored instead (don't worry about this); but 128 gig will store many many photos.
The other things you want to consider are screen size - generally bigger is better, but adds to price and makes the whole thing bigger - and screen resolution (level of detail).
Next, set a budget and have a look around Amazon or PC World (or similar) if you want to see them. It's ok to talk to the sales people about your needs and their offerings, don't be bamboozled by tech talk - ask for clarification on what they mean. Don't be pressured into buying straight away until you've seen a few offerings of the right screen size, a decent clock speed, and decent ram

Thank you!! @AdamNichol I've seen one which says this....

Acer Swift 5 SF514-52T Laptop, Intel® Core™ i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14.0" touchscreen.

Is the 256 the ROM?

Yes. SSD stands for solid state drive, a type of storage that has lots of data space but is physically small. 14 inch screen isn't that big, 16 tends to be desirable. I5 processor is fine

These are brilliant. I use mine for Photoshop and Lightroom. Best computer I've ever had.
