I am looking to buy this as a Christmas present for my DH. Any recommendations - which is better Dolce Gusto or Tassimo? Thanks

Tassimo has a much wider range of pods, everything from hot chocolate to fruit teas but Dolce Gusto only do coffee type ones, there are about 40 drinks in thier range but nearly double that in the tassimo range so it really depends if you want the flexibility to make other types of drinks, we have the Tassimo and the cadbury hot chocolate one is popular in our hour

BlueUggs · 23/11/2018 15:23

We've got a tassimo - we love it!
The pods are a bit of an environmental nightmare but you can recycle them IF there is a collection point near you.

clairethewitch70 · 23/11/2018 15:26

Tassimo sounds a better choice for us then thanks. Any recommendation for best value pods? Can the pods not go into normal recycling? Is there such a thing as refillable pods?

I have a Tassimo. Pods are not reusable and just go in general bin (plastic, foil, wet coffee grounds).
They get sold in packs of 16 for circa £4 in most supermarkets; just stock up when they have a deal going. You can also get them delivered from Amazon or Tassimo itself. Not found that to be better value though.

paddler78 · 23/11/2018 15:39

Tassimo website often have 25% off which make them a pretty good price compared to supermarkets - especially when using the vouchers you normally get with a new machine, or if you are a member of CostCo they often have the Costa ones on offfer.

@blueUggs I'd not heard of the collection points how do you find out where they are?

Katedotness1963 · 23/11/2018 15:51

Loved our Tassimo!

clairethewitch70 · 23/11/2018 17:55

I put a tassimo in my Amazon basket, started looking at pods and have now spotted Senseo & Nespresso! This is so confusing. Where is the best value place to get a starter pack of pods? We don't drink black, we like flavoured cappucino/lattes. We use syrups at the moment.

Why contribute hundreds of plastic pods that will sit in a landfill?

Get a decent machine that runs on beans or ground.

Tidypidy · 23/11/2018 18:39

We used to have tassimo but much prefer our nespresso. There's lots of different coffees available. Many shops sell own brand pods to fit. You can also get reusable pods to fill yourself so more eco friendly. We have a milk frother too which makes lovely lattes or hot chocolate.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/11/2018 18:43

I've just bought a Tassimo on a black Friday deal for Dd's Christmas.
It's not something I'd want but she'll love it.

NotMeNoNo · 23/11/2018 18:46

If you are bothered about recycling, I would recommend an Aeropress. Our Tassimo is now gathering dust. I don't drink white coffee but DH didn't like the cappuccino capsules. I'd go into john lewis where they demo them.

sackrifice · 23/11/2018 18:48

I was just going to say get an Aeropress. They make the best coffee ever.

RedDeadRoach · 23/11/2018 18:49

Only get one if you can afford to keep spending fortune on the pods.

LemonMousse · 23/11/2018 18:58

I have a Dolce Gusto but to be fair the Tassimo offers more choice of flavours.
Only plus point is that Lidl do a pack of Dolce Gusto compatible pods for about £2.79 for 16 as opposed to £4.00+ for the 'proper' ones.

MummyMummy01 · 23/11/2018 19:02

I had tassimo for about 6 months. The coffee gets bitter and we stopped using. Now got a nespresso which we’ve had about 4 years. Love it great choice in coffee but it can get expensive coffee rates as good now as when e first had. They also do limited editions throughout year which gives eve n more variety

disneyspendingmoney · 23/11/2018 19:09

AldisAldis's doing a £49 nesspresso clone ATM, alternatively an actual nesspresso as the Lidl and Aldi pods are about 16p each and fairly good

Meet0nTheIedge · 23/11/2018 19:27

We've got a Tassimo at work, the coffee is not nice, bitter and no depth of flavour and the whitener capsules are rank. Hard to recycle too.

We've got a Nespresso at home it makes much, much better coffee and we send the empty capsules off to be recycled - they only take actual Nespresso ones.

However in the summer I bought an Aeropress to take camping and it wins hands down. I use it every day, have only used the Nespresso about twice in 3 months since getting it.

Stephisaur · 23/11/2018 20:05

We swapped our tassimo for the dolce gusto. We don’t drink coffee, so find it much better for hot chocolates. The iced tea is also lovely.

We were fed up of never being able to find decent tassimo capsules but we can always get dolce gusto ones from Asda!

Tattybear16 · 23/11/2018 20:13

I swapped my tassimo for a nespresso, much better coffee, and the pods from Lidl are brilliant value.
