Just placed my first matched bet...

...can anyone tell me if it looks okish?

Have been reading threads on here and reading and re-reading the Save the Student guide but ballsed up at the outset by signing up to Coral without going via the promotional link (duh!) so googled offers and have used Betway and Betfair for the Leicester v Brighton match on Saturday.

Bet on Leicester to win at 2.60, laid at 2.64.

Does that sound about right?

Also what does 'Cash Out' mean?!

Other than getting my dad to do me 50p each way on the National as a kid I've never placed a bet in my life.

How much did you lay?

MisterTea · 22/11/2018 23:39

Yes that sounds about right though, think it means you can take your money put midway through the actual match , not sure which rules apply though as I don't use the cash out button.

MisterTea · 22/11/2018 23:41

Just seen your liability and yes if it's a qualifying bet to get your free one that looks good 👌

MintyCedric · 22/11/2018 23:43

It was £10 minimum bet on Leicester to win on Betway for £30 freebies so laid £10 on Betfair against the win.

I thought that's what the cash out button was about. Can't see that you'd need it for MB.

Am half excited and half bricking it...don't think I've ever been so enthusiastic about getting the football results in my life!

Thanks MisterT

Don't think the Betway site is quite as user friendly for a total novice and I'm not a numbers person at the best of times.

Can't believe i was such a numpty with Coral, but have opened the account and bunged £5 in so hopefully if I don't use it they might send me an offer to give me a kick up the backside!

I'm so keen to try this but really don't know where to start!

FreckledLeopard · 22/11/2018 23:53

I don't recall having to do a promotional link or code for Coral? Maybe just use live chat if you do and ask if they'll credit free bets once you've staked first bet?

Bet looks fine. I'd recommend signing up to Team Profit and spending time on the Facebook site (it's a free group and brilliant support). Also, OddsMonkey is excellent and well worth the subscription fee each month.

Be aware that Betway are notoriously quick to gub so don't be surprised if you get a gubbing email soon. I'd focus more on the more mainstream bookies at this stage (Sky, Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy). Don't do the BetVictor sign up yet unless you're confident laying multiples.

Also, Smarkets have lower commission that Betfair and a good sign up offer at the moment.

MisterTea · 22/11/2018 23:54

Yes it's something like that, £10.04 , I've been doing it a few months and some of the sites are a pain in the ads to navigate around ughhh! Nah youre all good, I've do e my fair share of mistakes!

Cheers Freckled.

I had to google 'gubbing' Blush. Tbh if all goes ok I probably won't stick with Betway for long as really not keen on the layout of the site - too much going on and it makes me twitchy!

MissLadyM as you've probably gathered I'm also almost totally clueless about MB...I stumbled across the idea on here a few weeks ago. There are some good MN threads with pointers to useful websites that can walk you through the first few bets if you do decide to try it.

Decided to go back to Coral and play the £5 I'd already deposited on the off chance. There was a Spanish footy match tonight which fit the bill so I've gone with that and they've credited me with 4 x £5 bets so looks like we're underway!

Hello again!

3 days in and am up £5.50 overall on my first two bets and have got my free bets from Coral which I've split over 2 matches tomorrow. Have had to top up Betfair a/c to cover liability on lay bets but that should be cancelled out either way.

So now I need to ask a stupid question...at this point do I keep laying and betting with Coral with whatever money I make or move onto another bookie with offers/wait until Coral send me some more freebies?

MintyCedric · 25/11/2018 12:34

Move onto the next sign up bonus (new bookie)

MissLadyM · 28/11/2018 22:17

I've done my first £5 on Coral for a match tomorrow. I've got my 4 x £5 free bets now but I'm waiting until tomorrow. My nerves are shredded and I'm on the wine! When it clicks it really makes sense. I'm hoping to make £600 at least using the free offers!

MintyCedric · 28/11/2018 22:38

Good luck!

I'd made about £35 as of yesterday but have opened a new bookies account so down the £10 deposit which has gone on a game tomorrow and should result in £30 worth of free bets.

I was expecting it to make more profit faster, but am only doing 1 bet a day, over 2 bookies and not using particularly high odds as don't want to keep adding to my lay account. Am trying to build that up so that I can place future free bets on higher odds games without topping up from bank a/c to cover liability, if that makes sense.

Should probably revert to a step by step guide to give me more of a clue!

Just be aware that if you sign up to Paddy you will need to use another exchange to lay on (Smarkets or Matchbook) as Betfair is the same company as Paddy.

MintyCedric · 29/11/2018 00:09

Thanks for the tip Escape.

I haven't signed up for either of those yet although thinking of giving Smarkets a try soon - may be next weekend when I've got a quieter one!

@MintyCedric I've always wanted to try it but been too nervous! Read the save the student guide and followed the first bit...

Jasmin82 · 29/11/2018 01:46

It's something I've considered a few times, but always worried that, even following step-by-step, bomb and fool proof instructions, Id' manage to get it wrong! I may give it a go and see if I can follow the instructions.

FreckledLeopard · 29/11/2018 16:30

If you want an easy step by step guide, look at OddsMonkey or Team Profit (the latter is free to join and has a very useful Facebook group) - the Save the Student guide is hideously complicated!

I love matched betting. Made £110 yesterday and nearly £6k in total now!

AutumnB · 29/11/2018 18:21

£6k?! Wow!! Shock how long did that take?

Golden0ldie · 30/11/2018 13:16

Please can any seasoned matched bettors explain Accas to me. I’ve read the Odds Monkey guide a few times but can’t get my head around the whole lay, sequential lay aspect - and whether you need to watch it and adjust bets as the events happen. #confused.
