Is it worth me buying the newest model for another fiver? Also how many do people have? Wondering whether to get one for each of my children and one for the kitchen or am I just bring ridiculous?

Well I’ve bought 2 of the gen 2s, a gen 3 and an echo this week so I don’t think it’s ridiculous

I don’t know if it’s worth the extra fiver though as none have arrived yet!

StoorieHoose · 22/11/2018 21:04

Yes. The speaker

StoorieHoose · 22/11/2018 21:04

Is better

Vegisgrowingwell · 22/11/2018 21:08

So would it make sense to get the big echo for the kitchen and then each child the dot?

picklemepopcorn · 22/11/2018 21:09

It would! You can call the kids up then, to tell ,them it's tea time!

Vegisgrowingwell · 22/11/2018 21:11

That's what I was thinking Grin

Do you need the big echo? I was going to get one for starters to see if I like it and then add to it

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2018 21:19

Do you have blue tooth speakers? If so you can just blue tooth thr dot in and you don't need the full size one.

We have blue tooth speakers down stairs so we can use music in multi room and play simaltaeneously downstairs when we have guests over, upstairs it's an alarm, play music in the rooms, or intercom to my husband when we are on different floors. Personally I find it more useful in multiple rooms, we have four.

The trick though is to get into thr habit of using it. From music, to calculator, to shopping lists, news, weather, reminders etc, you basically need to change the way you do things if that makes sense, you need to get used to asking it to do things.

Holidayshopping · 22/11/2018 21:21

Can you use the Echo Dot/Spot/Alexa etc and ask it to text/ring/send an alarm to people on their iPhones?

picklemepopcorn · 22/11/2018 21:35

Yes. Much to my friend's irritation- his son worked out how and sent him a string of messages reminding him to go for a poo, change his smelly socks etc!

Dinosaursaremyfriends · 22/11/2018 21:42

What is a dot and why do I need one?

Owletterocks · 22/11/2018 22:12

Yes I have a blue tooth speaker but I thought the dot was one as well? Confused now, ha ha. I think the living room and kids bedroom would probably be enough for us

hairypaws · 22/11/2018 22:13

I have 3 but have yet to figure out how I communicate between them. They are all linked to the same amazon account. How do I get them to call one in a different room. Drop in doesn't work for me.

Vegisgrowingwell · 22/11/2018 22:21

I thought the dot was a speaker too...

OP posts:
hairypaws · 22/11/2018 22:25

The dot is also a speaker, it's just not as good as the big one. You don't need the big one, they are all the same except speaker quality.

Owletterocks · 22/11/2018 22:34

Ahh thanks, I can always upgrade if I like it then.

Oneinthegrave · 22/11/2018 22:49

The dot 2nd gen is awful, the ‘speaker’ is rubbish so can’t play music properly and it’s not so great at picking up your voice at times. We just upgraded to the 3rd gen new ones and can now play the radio / spotify on those as well as the echo. Look up a 2nd vs 3rd gen review on youtube you can see the difference in sound x

Bluntness100 · 23/11/2018 08:41

Yes the dot is a speaker, but we connect ours to Bose ones and play through that as the sound is obviously far superior. As such we don't need the bigger full size echo, as even the sound on that isn't comparable to the Bose ones. You wouldn't expect it to be comparable due to the low cost of the echo.

Sorry that's what I meant, do you have a decent blue tooth speaker as you can connect your dot to it and use the speaker for sound.

TillyVonMilly · 23/11/2018 09:33

We’ve got three dots, as others have said the speaker sound isn’t great quality and we do as mentioned up thread, Bluetooth to Bose speakers as we have those in the same rooms as the dots. The first dot came free with something else and tone honest we thought it would just be a bit gimmicky, we ended up buying two more as they’re so handy! Grin

hairypaws · 23/11/2018 13:10

Why would only two of mine speak to each other e other one doesn't? I can't figure out how to connect to my daughter's. They are all linked to the one Amazon account.

hairypaws · 24/11/2018 00:15

Finally fixed it.

Peacocking · 24/11/2018 02:16

The newest dot has a really good speaker, well worth an extra £5.
