I still like using an actual sat nav rather than my phone, because the screen is bigger and easier to see, and I find it shows me more of the lanes and stuff in a way that I can process it quickly.
I had a sort of dashboard thing that just sat on the dash, rubbery on the bottom so that it wouldn't slip off, and it kept it in a good position. But it never felt totally safe like that as it wasn't fixed to anything. And my new car has a different shaped dash anyway so it is harder to get it to sit flat.
I don't want to use suction cups on the windscreen or anything, and I don't think the suction cup would stick to the dash as it's not as smooth as glass.
Today I tried one of the holders that clips to the air vents, but it wasn't very good. The air vents in my car are vertical only (Ford) and the weight of the sat nav always meant that it tipped the vent the other direction and pointed it towards the passenger side or the floor. The clip can also be clipped to the CD player, but not in my car as the CD player doesn't have the right sort of flat opening I guess.
What other sorts are there that I've not tried? Or maybe I just need a different type of air vent one? It wasn't a bad position, though a little low.
