Tesco Xmas delivery slots - what time of day so they become available?

Tartpop · 22/11/2018 17:16

I need a good slot for christmas as we will be away on the run up to christmas and I hate crowds so wont want to brave the supermarket myself.

I have delivery saver and the slots open on the 26th, any idea what time of day please? I will be ready and waiting.

Tartpop · 22/11/2018 20:34

If it's any help, I usually set my alarm for 11pm night before and on more than one occasion I have got my slot before midnight, last year it was about 11.30pm but they were only meant to be available from midnight! Although I usually only want about 4 days before Christmas never the day or two before.

Tartpop · 22/11/2018 21:07

Ooh good tip thanks. We are away the week before Xmas and return late on the 23rd. It would really help to get a Xmas eve slot.

People really stay up until midnight/2am to get a Xmas Tesco delivery slot?
I’ve always just logged on the next morning when I get up and managed to get one. One year I don’t think I booked it until that evening even.
Maybe I just live in a quiet area for shopping delivery (or maybe all my wealthy neighbours get theirs delivered from Harrods Grin )

PickleSarnie · 22/11/2018 22:56

Blimey. I booked my Ocado Christmas slot back at the beginning of October. Which is bonkers early.

Dodie66 · 22/11/2018 23:06

The trouble with doing shopping on Christmas Eve or the day before is that you might not get some of the items. I do mine a few days before then if items don’t get delivered I can get thing locally

SouthWestmom · 22/11/2018 23:07

Trouble is, you do that and then end up not having sprouts or Diet Coke or gravy or parsnips or whatever.

anniehm · 22/11/2018 23:08

Last year I logged on to Ocado at the exact time they supposedly became available and I got the 22nd (only use Ocado when they send me vouchers and a delivery pass!)

shortgreengiraffe · 22/11/2018 23:19

Sorry @Tartpop but in previous years Tesco haven't delivered on Christmas Eve. Not sure about Click&Collect. What time are you home on 23rd, could you have a 10-11pm delivery?

Tartpop · 23/11/2018 21:32

Oh no really Sad. I suppose that makes sense.

I don't know what time we will be back and I suppose they could leave it outside if we aren't back. They have done that before and just stacked the boxes on the front door step. We live in a very quiet area so it's very safe.

I don’t think they are delivering on Christmas Eve - my email said access up to the 23rd.

AngryBudgie · 23/11/2018 21:47

On the email I received yesterday they said they were releasing slots up until the 23rd Dec on Mon 26th Nov. Then a limited number of Christmas Eve slots up to 6pm would be released on 27th Nov.

shortgreengiraffe · 24/11/2018 21:04

That sounds promising @AngryBudgie

@TartPop they are not supposed to leave it outside they are supposed to get a signature from you. So I wouldn't bank on it.

Tartpop · 24/11/2018 21:09

I have never signed, or at least for the past year or 2.

If they were at my house and phoned me I'm sure they would leave it out for me.

They definitely won’t leave shopping outside. I got stuck in traffic once, was 20 mins away. The chap rang to say he had arrived and I asked him to leave it on the doorstep. Said I’d take full responsibility for anything that went missing. He politely declined...it’s literally more than their job is worth. He came back at the end of his route and delivered it then.

LookImAHooman · 24/11/2018 21:34

Could a neighbour sign if it’s the end of the driver’s shift (so they couldn’t come back)?

I’m 99.9% certain we’ve had Tesco deliveries on Christmas Eve in previous years (it may have been Ocado) but 23rd is last available here. Our area is fairly naice but all Christmas slots here (whichever retailer) vanish literally two minutes after going live so I’ll be staying up, alas Smile

TheFairyCaravan · 24/11/2018 21:36

Tesco haven't done Christmas Eve for the past couple of years. They definitely won't leave it without it being signed for.

Crunchymum · 24/11/2018 21:40

I have a Morrisons slot for 23rd but I would prefer Sainsburys (available from end of the month). Fuck am I staying up until Midnight though.

lucysmam · 24/11/2018 21:45

I always get myself into a flap about having to stay up until midnight on a work/school night to get the slot I want (20th ish usually) but usually manage to log on and check out by around 11pm which is only slightly later than I'd usually go to bed.

I'll be checking earlier, just in case. On a laptop rather than the app...they don't seem to show up on the app.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/11/2018 22:56

I was very surprised the other day to log onto asda and find I could order shopping for delivery on 23rd, added a full shop and if it is not all available DH will still be able to go out on xmas eve for anything missing.

Redpriestandmozart · 26/11/2018 09:28

@Tartpop

Did you get your slot last night? I signed in at 11.30pm and slots opened about 11.45pm, I got my usual Friday 21st at 8-9am. When I looked this morning only a few Saturday afternoon were left.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 26/11/2018 09:46

I've got 23rd and managed to remember to book one for the week before because otherwise I end up without milk while everyone else is doing Christmas shopping!

But I can't add any festive food to order - it all says unavailable.. is that because someone did a full christmas shop at 1am and it's all sold out - or is is just not available yet?

Daria32 · 26/11/2018 15:00

I switched to Sainsbury’s a couple of years ago, I pay £30 for delivery pass for the year and as part of this get first dibs on the Christmas delivery slots. I always get one!
