Long story short but DS(4), when watching anything with toy adverts in between, like a broken record, says "Can I have..." "Mummy I'd like..." "I want this..."
In despair this morning I said "Next time you say you want a toy, I'm going to bin one of your toys"
2 mins later he said it... "Which toy is going in the bin then?" I said - calling his bluff. I wouldn't have ACTUALLY done it but he went over to the one of many Ikea units we have in our home and looked in the box and got a small dinosaur out and said "He can go... I don't like him anymore"
So I seized the opportunity to do a blitz of his toys. I said why don't we sort your toys so that they can go to FC to give to other boys and girls. He embraced it fully - giving me stuff to bin and stuff to send to FC.
I explained they would be dropped at a charity shop who would send them to FC. His elves would then sort them out, test them and pick which boy or girl would get the toy. That they'd then wrap them and get them ready for Christmas Eve when FC would bring children presents. I explained this will take a while as there's so many toys to text and wrap...
I feel triumphant but this is going to bite me in the arse isnt it....
What have you told your children and how has it backfired...
