Baby shower - help!

Hello!

I'm going to a babyshower. Never been to one before and I won't really know anyone except Mum to be who is SIL (I've met her DM and DSs once or twice).

Of course I haven't a clue what to take or do. Any etiquette tips? Are there any actual rituals or is it just sit/chat/tea/admire bumps etc.?

I have no idea what gifts others will bring but I'm guessing they'll have all the baby gear covered so I was thinking of getting something nice for SIL since she's going to be the one doing all the hard work on the day he/she arrives. Any ideas from Mum's of something they'd have like post partum? I don't want to just get some clutter she'll never use. Spa day with long expiry??

Help!

That's very thoughtful of you and such kindness is much appreciated by new mothers. Anything that is just for her, or stretching a point, a date night out at a restaurant for her and husband (as long as there is a babysitter). I expect you will give the baby something when it arrives though, your niece or nephew, a money box with some cash in it is nice.

Anyway this is for you Flowers.

Date night is a good idea! They live quite rurally though so I'd have to track down somewhere quite specific...I like the spa idea but I got her that for her last birthday that makes it look a bit like I haven't put any thought in!
