Moving house!

Any help or tips would be much appreciated!

Hubby and I are moving house to a bigger place in a month's time and we will be renting a van to move ourselves. Although its only a 3 minute drive (yaaaah!), we do have our hands full with DD 2 and DS nearly 1, (also 10 weeks pregnant with no.3!!) (Will enlist my brother to help with all the big heavy stuff as lifting is out of the question for me!)

If anyone had any tips on maybe what to pack first, how to pace yourself, keeping up with paperwork and change of address jazz and keeping little people happy in all the hustle, I would be MUCH OBLIGED!!!!

Maybe even some funny moving stories to lighten the load? Mind the pun

Can you afford financially to rethink the moving yourselves bit? Your new house may be only round the corner but the amount of work required at each end is the same as if you were moving 300 miles. If finances allow, in your situation with two very small children and one on the way I’d get professional movers and arrange for them to do the packing too.

In terms of paperwork etc, it is worth doing a postal redirect in advance (needs about 5 days notice) and telling your Internet provider with about 10 days notice so you have services quite quickly.

The main issue I found was space for storing packed boxes. If you have a spare room/garage etc it's easier. I started with things that could be easily stacked or put back in cupboards and did some of the heavy stuff first (to go on the bottom of a pile). Don't underestimate time taken to pack awkward bits e.g. wrapping kitchen and dismantling furniture to fit in the van. Although at least you can do multiple trips! Make sure your sofa etc can get out the doors!
