Does bra size correlate to dress size?

just that really. I’m not a weird boob troll, just curious if it’s as easy as saying right I’m size 12 so that equates to a 32 underband or if measuring is really still the best bet?

Measuring matters, I think.

For your example - I’m a size 12 and a 30 underband.

TulipsInbloom1 · 20/11/2018 21:12

Measuring matters. Im a 14 to 16. I have a 30inch band size as my ribcage is really narrow. It all goes to pot below that Grin.

Use the Boob Or Bust method for accurate sizing.

Creatureofthenight · 20/11/2018 21:13

Measuring is essential! Cup size not just band size. If one person is a 32A and another is a 32H they aren’t both going to fit in a size 12.

Band is very unlikely to be more than dress size +20 is the main correlation. I'm usually a 28 band and anything from a 12 to a 16.

If someone has "average" size boobs, 10 = 30 might well work, but cup will be about FF...

I'm an F and it's not huge in a 28 or 30 back. Women have been using incorrect bra sizes for so long that they don't understand sizing properly any more. The amount of people that tell me they are a 34 C when in reality hardly anyone is. Usually people who think they are a B or C actually turn out to be a D or DD because they've got their back sizing completely wrong.

Don't go anywhere that uses a tape measure to size you as bras don't work like that. And for gods sake don't go to M&S!

UnaOfStormhold · 20/11/2018 21:45

I'm not sure dress size correlates with anything!

Where is the best place to get measured?

BreconBeBuggered · 20/11/2018 22:11

So what about those braletty type things that come in dress sizes? Does anyone wear those, and how do they correspond to your usual bra size?

IKnewTheStorm · 20/11/2018 22:14

Rigby & Peller is the best place to get measured.

I’m a 30F and just bought a size 4 coat and it was roomy on me all over. Sizing does depend on the manufacturer though.

KatharinaRosalie · 20/11/2018 22:18

32DD on the tightest clasp fits on the cup, around the band and in the back

A new bra should always fit on loosest hooks, so you can tighten it when it stretches. Have you tried a 30E instead? Same cup.

Lexilooo · 20/11/2018 22:20

I generally find dress sizes are utterly inadequate at taking into account boobs. Someone with a small rib cage and large breasts can have a similar measurement around the fullest part of their bust to someone with a broad back and fairly small breasts but they won't fit in the same clothes.

Bralettes and dress sized swimwear are purely about luck as to whether they fit you.

Dress sizes are daft really, they vary so much and don't take into account different shapes. Why don't we just size things by hip or bust measurement I don't know, it would make things much easier!

Ollivander84 · 20/11/2018 22:28

Generally band size is around dress size plus 20 as said above

I measure 35/36 underbust and wear a 32/34 bra though

I always get fitted at a decent underwear shop (not M&S) I'm a 34EE (or maybe F, can't be arsed to find bra to look) and wear a size 14-16 depending on shop BUT cotton tops (no stretch) do not fit my boob area in a 14 or 16 as my actual boobs are huge. The buttons always strain open if they are even slightly slim fitting! It's so fucking annoying having huge boobs!

Fairylea · 21/11/2018 06:34

I’m another one that is a 14-16 and a size 30 back (30G). I think there’s some correlation but it’s not totally clear cut. No one is likely to be a 30 back at a size 24 or a 36 back at a size 8.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 21/11/2018 09:51

They don't really correlate exactly. I generally wear a 32dd and although my band size measures smaller I always end up around a 32dd regardless of where I shop and whoever has measured me. Dress size, I can go into most places and pick a size 8 and it fits well, sometimes too big. But then the rest of me is small - short with a 26 inch waist and 34 hips (measured over the widest part of my bum), which is a standard 8 in most places.

Mulberry72 · 21/11/2018 12:05

I’m a size 8-10 and am a 34 underband and a C cup. I hate my boobs, I lost a lot of weight after I had DS(12) and my boobs are so saggy and awful. I need to try and put on about a stone and a half to get my boobs back!

KatharinaRosalie · 21/11/2018 12:17

Mulberry is your underbust actually 34 inches at size 8-10, or has this been a M&S fitting?

Piggyhoolier · 21/11/2018 18:14

Hmm, well I’m still none the wiser but I did take myself to be measured today and am a size 32DD and I’m a size 12 in the main so I’m thinking I must be a fairly standard shape.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/11/2018 18:16

I'm a size 16 and measure 34 but a J/K cup.
