Like a food bank, but gives out vouchers/money?

I get the impression that a lot of food bank customers find themselves left with an unexpectedly large or badly timed bill and have to choose food or electricity. Is there a charity you can give to that will help people with those kinds of bills, you know, like benefits and wages are supposed to, so people can buy the food they need themselves?

The foodbank I volunteer at will also put £10 on your gas or electric key (or split across the two), as well as giving a food parcel. Some also give clothes/baby items, or can refer to other organisations that can. Foodbanks also work with clients to ensure that there is a long term plan in place to make sure they can move on from their current situation (e.g. budgeting advice, debt help, help applying for benefits, help gaining employment etc, etc). Your local foodbank will welcome your donation, and use it in the best possible way to ensure that those in need have all the essentials.
