Daughter afraid of a certain teacher

When my daughter went into year 2, she was allocated a new maths teacher. She hasnt really taken to this teacher and she is now causing my daughter to have terrible anxiety.

My daughter often complains of having stomach ache and she has expressed her dislike of her teacher. My daughter is afraid of getting an answer wrong as she feels that the teacher will shout at her. My daughter recently told me that after my daughter got an answer wrong, the teacher told my daughter that she didn’t want her in her group anymore.

My DD has never been like this and has never had anxiety about school. I don’t know what to do. I’ve spoken to the school about it but not sure what else to do.

I would request a meeting with the Head and the teacher to try and get to the bottom of what is going wrong. Don't couch it as a complaint initially, just a meeting so that you can all work together to resolve whatever is causing your dd to feel so anxious around this teacher.

You should be able to gauge during the meeting whether or not the teacher really is at fault. We had a teacher in Y2 who bullied our autistic son, broke the law and was really quite cruel and negligent. We had to push quite hard but the school did eventually put concrete measures in place to change her practice and support our son. We've also had personality clashes and misunderstandings and times when it's one of our children who has needed to change their behaviour or approach a certain teacher differently. Impossible to know exactly which it is until you have a face-to-face meeting, in my experience.
