I've a couple sainsburys ready meals in the fridge and before I put my dinner on need to know if one is safe to use. The other has today's date on so I'm in a quandary.

It's a sainsburys love your veg mushroom stroganoff date on it is 17 Nov and it does say use by but I'm wondering...

If not I have a veggie haggis meal with today's date.

Please no judgment on the ready meal aspect as I've been very unwell lately and this has been all I can cope with cooking wise - appetite also not been great.

I would eat it.

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 18/11/2018 18:12

It will be absolutely fine.. use by dates assume really poor food storage practices and are partially to get you to buy more

ABitCrapper · 18/11/2018 18:12

Personally I would bin the out of date one and eat the in date one. As I would only worry.

They will both be fine to eat either today or tomorrow.

tempnameforhelp · 18/11/2018 18:13

It will be fine.

Graphista · 18/11/2018 18:15

Cheers all - can I ask any of you "experts in the field" I know there's a couple on here that regularly name change.

Reason I don't trust myself on this stuff is OCD - I get a bit paranoid about this stuff

It'll be fine. Eat it. Have the haggis tomorrow. They're both getting nuked, they're both veggie, you'll be OK.

AviatorShades · 18/11/2018 18:16

Eat it! It's going to be fine, things really arent that time sensitive.

Graphista · 18/11/2018 18:22

No micro - I have a habit of blowing those up can't be trusted - being heated in oven. I'm gonna go for it - and blame you lot if it makes me ill Grin

Ex - Expert in the field here. Will be absolutely fine OP.

ArseholesOnToast · 18/11/2018 20:47

I’m a Life science and food science graduate working in the food industry. You’ll be fine. (I’d have eaten it).

longwayoff · 18/11/2018 20:51

Not an expert but still alive after eating quite a lot of past it food over the years. So I hope you're fine.

Graphista · 18/11/2018 20:53

Thanks for the reassurance genuinely means a lot.

As I say I fret about this stuff. But also can't afford to throw ok food away.
