Dd in yr7 does a subject called IVE (Intellectual Vision and Endeavour) she doesn't understand it & hates it. Thought she was being a bit dramatic but I'm trying to help with homework today & im starting to hate it Confused
It's difficult to summarise even, the 3 things they've covered in lessons are human origins, a heritage site in Turkey & what a vision is ConfusedConfusedConfused
Does anyone know anything about this I'm stuck!

I feel like you're overthinking if? It says a 'small' piece of written work, so I would expect a short summary of a paragraph only. The Three questions but seems broad enough that absolutely any further thinking that vaguely links to the topics would be acceptable (for example, the human origins link could be linked to evolution? Then the areas of disagreement could be the 'creationist' theory. The 'vision' bit could be researching how we are likely to evolve in the future? And then I'm sure there is some sort of research that she could look into related to this to tick off the 'endeavour' bit?

It seems to me they are broad topics and the idea is to find something within that which you are interested in and want to know more about. Then you use that interest to think of questions you want answering, then look at the scientific research behind that?

But I have no idea and may be completely wrong.

They are broad topics and in Year 7 I wouldn't have thought the homework should take anymore than 40 mins. Is there a small area of these topics that particularly interested her that she could focus on? I think if you look at the whole of these topics you will be there hours!

You could say something along lines of ' This term we have explored xyz and examined..... In particular I have found... Of interest

Ask her to ask the teacher for a sample of IVE work done by previous years which was considered acceptable, perhaps?

Looks very vague and woolly to me. Do they actually do proper history and geography teaching in this school or just a hodgepodge of random bits and pieces?

If she really doesn't understand it then she needs to inform the teacher that - not get you to do the homework for her. It could be that the other 29 in the class also didn't understand it so the teacher needs to start again.

It's difficult to summarise even, the 3 things they've covered in lessons are human origins, a heritage site in Turkey & what a vision is

Short summary of each thing.

Next step, choose 3 questions (one for each area?) of things to explore.

Vision box - pretty much as above fir the questions

Endeavour - how they’ll find out answers

Evaluation - leave til last, this is woolieat. Ask teacher if needed.

ds gets homework like this for other subjects, especially RMPS but it is explained more fully in the classroom how to do it. They give it a try and the teacher gives feedback and encouragement and they take it back and add to or refine it further, take it deeper, and hand in again. The work is usually seen at least twice before finalised.

She needs to go back to the teacher for support if she isn't understanding how it was explained in class, preferably with a first draft of the bits she did get to ask if she is on the right lines. It will be a good skill for her to learn to work this out with the teacher.
