Is it any good, specifically the afternoon tea? Was planning to get vouchers for a friend who is veggie but wanted to check first!

I've heard it's lovely but I've never been. Sounds like a lovely idea though, really kind of you to do for your friend. If not then everyone raves about Britannia cafe, again I've never been but I've heard about it from nearly every friend I have who lives here.

Assembly Rooms is lovely. They do themes to the afternoon teas now and again. I know there has been a Unicorn one and Harry Potter. Even DH loves going there and he certainly more of a steakhouse person!

I’ve been several times. That will be a lovely gift. You can always telephone them to check that they have suitable veggie options for the afternoon tea.

I went there for a 2-3 day work mtg, 8 months ago.
I wasn't super impressed. Pleasant but nothing special.
Maybe I'm wrong coz it is super popular in Norwich, fawned over even.

iamthefox · 19/11/2018 08:28

If you give them advance notice they can do a vegan afternoon tea. I went once and it was delicious!

countrybunny · 19/11/2018 08:36

I've been! Lush and unlimited sandwiches! Expensive though

It’s nice but they’ve become a bit of a victim of their own success and standards have been slipping. The Maid’s Head do a nice afternoon tea, not sure about a veggie one though. If you want a real treat and it’s not too far from your friend’s house I’d be inclined to get vouchers for Heydon Tea Rooms because that was voted best afternoon tea in Norfolk. Avoid Harriet’s, it wasn’t great there at all. Biddy’s Is also nice and might be better for your friend as you don’t get a selection of sandwiches/cakes etc - you pick your own sandwich, scone and cake each. Depends if you like sharing or not!

DS2 took me to Biddys for afternoon tea for my birthday. It was so, so nice. Here's their menu for you to look at in case it helps.

badgerandriceplease · 19/11/2018 12:54

I think I'll go for Biddy's!
