Ebay Experts- query over cash on collection

101Labradoodles · 17/11/2018 11:11

I've only ever sold small items (posted). Am now selling some furniture for a reasonable 3-figure sum.

People have told me I ought to accept cash on collection only because there will be no paper trail of handing it over (no postage cert.)

How does this work? Default setting on Ebay is Paypal.
Do you put C on C in the sellng text?

How does it work re Ebay following up as it would show as an unpaid item.

You can mark the item as paid in My Ebay, so it won't remain as unpaid. However for items like this I would usually use Gumtree or Shpock.

Definitely only take cash on collection, otherwise the buyer can open a not received claim on PayPal and you will have no proof to say otherwise as they only accept tracked postage.

To be honest I would not deal with someone who wanted to pay paypal and then collect, as you can be scammed. Cash onlY upon collecting is your safest option.

Ebay take 10%, don't they? Agree about selling via Freeads or Gumtree instead if you can, to avoid commission.

DH once did a bank transfer while sitting in someone's living room, to pay for ah iPhone. Both sides could see it went thru & no cash to hand over.

Thanks. I'm not going to use Paypal I just wondered how 'legally' it worked for Ebay! Never had much success with Gumtree in this area.

We hav just sold loads of bits of furniture on ebay due to a house move including 3 piece suite. Some was sold cash on collection some paypal as people hired a man with a van to collect and deliver to them.
No issues either way.

Cash on collection only and personal collection only, no couriers. Avoids any problems with damage claims, and not received cases.
Put it in the listing to cover yourself should anything go wrong.

I often collect in person and people ALWAYS ask for PayPal. If I suggest cash they act like I'm trying to scam them so I've stopped bothering.
